i daily drive my NSX sometimes, i usually switch off every few days, but i drove the NSX all last week, drove my Z today and will probably go back to the NSX tomorrow... you can drive anything daily, it all depends on you. GT-R is automatic and AWD, so its even better. if you can't afford tires, fuel, and maintenance, you shouldn't be driving these cars.

The GT-R CAN be automatic, if you choose.

And if tire costs are too much, just opt for the all-seasons (one of the many no-cost options). They last a lot longer (and are only a couple secs slower per lap).

GTR as a daily driver

I've used mine as a dd for about 2.5 months now in heavy traffic in a large metro area. Overall it does ok. It is not as easy in traffic as a peppy 3 series BMW or a Lincoln Town Car (LOL). The dual clutch is better suited for high perfomance. The cars runs as it is designed to be on the interstate or on a race track at high speeds. Around town its fine, I just feel that it is at its best hauling @$$ on an interstate or race track. It is a VERY comfortable car to drive around town....the seats are supportive and the ammenities are great for a fast super car.

I sold my supercharged nsx a year ago.that car was easy to daily drive. I didnt but it woulda been no problem. very fun car and just going through a mcdonalds parking lot was fun in that car.

my viper on the otherhand is a 03 srt10 and even it could be daily driven. sometimes Ill daily drive it for a week just because its fun.

my 99 viper on the other hand no way no how could you daily drive that street legal race car...LOL

In short. GTR seems pretty easy to daily drive to me. But I like em rough. My buddy on the otherhand is selling his GTR after just a few minths of ownership because his wife absolutely hates the way it drives..

like many said its a very personal thing. But come on. back seat plus awd plus auto trannie plus around 500 HP plus a good size trunk. cant beat that!

So my question is - does a convertible car seat fit in the back? Not an infant rear facing seat but a toddler front facing seat. I raced a 500hp single turbo RX-7 for years and now have two Lotus Exiges - one stock street car and one fully prepped race car with a full cage, window nets, and fire suppression system. One thing I miss is being able to go on a Sunday drive WITH my family. I like taking a fun car out on weekends to drive, and now that I have a toddler, I either selfishly go solo and leave the wife babysitting or don't go at all. I've thought about getting a GTR as a DD, but would like to know a car seat fits in the back.

I have two kids that love the rides in the Gtr. 4 years old and 20 months. Both ride in there forward facing recaros.

Leg room is tight though my youngest in the the " recaro young sport seat" sits behind me and she to short to let her feet in the footwell and is too long for her seat so her feet just rest up on the back of my seat. That's why got black interior.

Great info - thanks. I'll have to look up the dimensions of the recaros. I have a Britax Marathon. My wife and I are more vertically challenged so the front seats would not be back that far. I'm not convinced I'll be in a Lotus long term and the GT-R is tempting. I just wish it wasn't so heavy. I haven't had a performance car weighing more than 3000 lbs in almost 20 years.

While the Lotus (Elise) that I drove for a few weeks was noticeably lighter, almost every time I turned the steering wheel, or hit the brakes, the GT-R moves its weight VERY well, and I was not bothered by the additional poundage.

My younger kids (now 5 & 9) have driven with us for 3 1/2 years in the GT-R (so they started at 2 & 6).

Occasionally, my oldest son (5'7") sits in the back, although he is not that comfortable for long trips. They are okay if you MUST take somebody somewhere, but other than that - I wouldn't want to ride for an excessive period of time back there.

i bought my gt-r in apr '10 and have put about 11k miles on it so far. i drive it 80% of the time. i've only once had someone in the backseat and that was around the block so he didn't complain too much. any longer and it would become an issue.

overall i find it completely usable for a daily driver. but i also have a higher tolerance than others might as i've driven plenty of lowered, loud, etc cars for years. i don't plan on lowering the gt-r though as my lowered z06's were troublesome in many situations.

just did the 18k mile maintenance. was $650 for fluids and did the work myself. easy job imo. just put all seasons on too. that was expensive (~$2300), but they should last for quite awhile.

the combination of awd, power (modded making 600ahwp now), and a better interior than i had in past cars makes the gt-r a great all around car for me. only downside is racking up miles and taking hits from rocks to the front end and windshield. i've already had a couple of cracks repaired.

I finally went with all-seasons as well, as I haven't really noticed a large difference between these and the factory summer tires (I started with Bridgestones RE070s, then went to Dunlop SP600s, then back to the Bridgestones a couple times, and then onto the all-seasons) for normal street driving. I did have to adjust the way I take a few corners, my entry and corner speed had to come down a little on a few turns on my way to work, but I can apply throttle almost the same.

On track, I was pleasantly surprised - I only lost a few secs each lap (let's say around a 2:12 around VIR Full with all-season tires - which is good for a novice like me). I'm now looking for a dedicated set for the track.

BUT - ~$2300 for all-seasons? Man, try tirerack.com. Shave about $500 off that price.

For a beginner sports car driver driver, they'll get a little hop here and there. Nothing a day of driving wouldn't remedy.

This. Great daily if you have ever daily driven a highly modded car with a serious clutch. The bucking is tolerable if you know how to drive it. Doesn't take long to get use to. Steady pedal pressure avoids unwanted jerking. The lack of a clutch pedal makes it even easier.

Any GTR has to be a better DD than a Lotus. I can't even put my laptop briefcase in the "trunk" without using 2 hands to pivot it in once you place it in the opening. My helmet won't even fit in the opening so it has to go in the passenger seat when I head to the track. Any reasonably sized adult in the passenger seat encroaches on your personal space because you rub shoulders. Reaching for a parking garage ticket and paying for something at a drive through can be next to impossible.

I'm considering getting a 2013 GTR as my next 'daily' (although I work from home and dont really drive daily in any kinda form). I'm not too worried about about town drivability, but coming from a 996 and then a Gallardo, I was kinda hoping a Nissan would be incredibly discreet by comparison in the attention department.
...from what y'all are saying, that may not be the case huh? or is it kinda the standard 'cool car' attention? cause even my 60 t-bird and 69 chevelle attracted a surprising amount of attention, but all was pretty positive and not super annoying as compared to the exotics.
