Need buying advice
Rarely post on forums, read a lot of posts though. Looking at buying a GT-R. What would OWNERS or PRIOR OWNERS of GT-Rs recommend? I am all over the board from nicely modded older cars to a new Black Edition. Is there a sweet spot for the older cars as in year, mods etc to get close to the performance of the 2013s? Is the Black worth 10K more than a Premium? Not afraid to spend the money, just don't want to waste any. Like the $1,100 floor matts. I would never do that but have never shied away from spending what it takes to get what I want.

First of all....do you have a budget? If price were no object I would get a '13 GT-R Black Edition. I like the carbon fiber wing and Recaro seats and I seem to be in the minority...but I also prefer the Black Edition wheels. But in reality I have financial constraints. So I am happy to keep my '09 GT-R and have modified well beyond the acceleration capabilities of a stock '13 GT-R. I bought my car 20 months ago, before the DBA (2012) came out. I got a decent deal on mine (can probably get what I paid for it even after putting nearly 10K miles on it). So for me it was a no brainer to keep my car knowing that after putting about $6,500 in performance modifications (mid pipe, down pipes, turbo inlet pipes, Cobb A/P, custom tune, and intakes) it will likely run neck and neck with a similarly modded '13 GT-R. Aside from the aesthetics (new front bumper w/ LEDs, rear valence and carbon fiber interior pieces), Recaro seats and suspension pieces, the '13 GT-R also has the factory LC5 transmission software. I bought my A/P without the trans software capabilites and currently has the Nissan flashed LC2. I have run a best 0-60mph in 2.89s (with a vbox and using a 1 foot roll ouit like most car magazines use) and 10.838 @128.4mph (trap was 130.7+mph on that same run per the vbox) WITHOUT using launch control and before the turbo inlet pipe upgrade. So if you want straightline performance and want to save some money, I would recommend getting a modded '09-'11 GT-R (or non-modded one and mod yourself). If you want a warranty, better ride, and "fresher" look, you should consider going for a '12-'13 GT-R and pay the premium. I think you need to decide which aspects you value more than others and make the decision that best fits your wants/needs.

NAGTROC has a very informative FAQ post which documents all the differences and sheds light on ownership/maintenance costs:

I would even start there to see what member cars are available. Then I would look at ebay and autotrader. I initially found my car on ebay and saw that it was at a dealership about 1/2 an hour away from me. I went for a test drive and came home with the car.
Good luck!
