How to test drive a GT-R?
Hi Everyone,
My name's Brian, and I'm from NJ (I hate the state so much I put PA, I live on the border though)...but I'm pretty young. Right now I drive a Hyundai Genesis v6 coupe which is nice and speedy, but its not enough for my tastes. I'm actually a relatively slow and very conservative driver on a day to day basis particularly on residential roads, much more so than my dad, but i like accelerating sometimes when I get in open areas. I've never been in an at fault accident and I have a very clean record. Most people call me over cautious, so pretty much the diametric opposite of your typical tailgating (I also never tailgate) new jersey driver who cuts people off and weaves and speeds like a maniac in traffic, but you do need to know when to put your right foot down around here. I like the speed because it enables me to avoid crazy drivers when I have to (which is a lot around here, ugh) and gives me control of the situation. Occasionally I'll let my car rip on some back road with no houses on it (rare around here), but I drive more like a 50 year old than a 20 year old
I'm only 23, so how would I afford this car (I pay for all my own stuff)? Well, I have an extremely lucrative self made business going and once I have $80000 to throw around which could come soon, I'd like to get a used 2013 GT-R around 2015 or something. So I wouldn't be buying one now, but I'd like to test this car out sometime to see if it really is my dream car...I'll be in Florida for awhile soon....I'm not sure how I would. I'm guessing a dealer isn't going to want to let me just get behind the wheel of one of these. So I guess I'm just looking for suggestions on how to test one of these out. Much appreciated.

Well that's very nice to know, I guess the thing is that I don't have too many official records, like are they going to ask for proof of income or things like that? It's kind of complicated but I'm glad they let them do that....I don't see them around that much though.

Most Nissan dealers across the country, if not all, will not let anyone test drive a brand new GT-R (a rule that I personally like). Best bet is to find a dealer with a used one on the lot. Good luck.

That's what I had heard, that it would be better to check out one from a used dealership. I know a guy who sells Nissans and had one with 1800 miles on it recently, but hes from the DC area : p
How much would it be to rent one at a closed course or something for a few hours? And I've never been to one, I'd really like to go....not some drag strip, like an actual course.

I'm hearing the same thing about no test drives on the new ones. I'm about to see about driving 2hrs to test drive a used one, as I'm considering a GTR as well. I'll probably call ahead to find out how feasible this will be. I'm a bit older than you though, and I don't doubt a dealership will give you a hard time for your age. They might even require pre-approval for credit.

That's why they make aftermarket exhausts.

This unusual policy for Nissans is a wonderful rule to reassure to new owners that the car has not been a floor model, thrashed by tire kickers with no intention of ever buying one. The community self-regulates the compensation for this.
I'd be glad to offer you a test drive in mine.
(Don't test drive Scott's, you'll never stop asking for more power)

As long as you in there looking and acting serious, I don't think they will deny you a test drive. If they do, just look for another dealer.
You can also look for an exotic car rental place that will let you rent the car and get a real test drive in (though usually they have some kind of rev or speed limiter).

There are a lot of restrictions with this car that separates it from other Nissans.

If the dealers dont work out find a local car meet and nicely ask the owners if they can give you a ride, tell them what your plan is, they might even let you drive it, with the owner in the car.
Best of luck!
