Was reading police blotter today. Crazy **** is going on in Atherton:

This incident in Redwood City is nearly as funny:
1401 Broadway, 12:05 p.m. Jan. 8 A man lying in a parking lot declined to press charges against the man who whacked him over the head with a baseball bat.

That's pretty unusual, the blotter usually has stuff like "An elderly woman was seen crossing a street" and "A golden retriever was seen pooping on a lawn. The street was blocked off by police. No arrests were made."

I'm actually pretty well versed in firearms - though mainly assault rifles (ROTC days when I was slim and hot). I just never choose to own one myself.
Almost everyone I know who's had a handgun was either threatened with it at least once by their significant other during an argument, or discharged it accidentally.
Handguns - especially that 9mm, are notoriously inaccurate and just doesn't have enough stopping power. For home protection I'd rather have a shotgun.

I dunno about puffy jackets but this one had some poetic irony:
Palo Alto
600 block of Hansen Way, 2:36 p.m. Jan. 6 A large flat panel television was stolen from the front lobby of a law office.
