Most Beautiful Roads of the World, (Oregon)

I don't know OR roads at all, heck I barely know WA roads outside of the Bellevue area, so I hope it's somewhat accurate. Some very pretty pictures though. Think I might head down there in June. Perhaps head down to northern CA as well.

I hope so, I'd love to take my daughter (14) for a several day trip like this once school gets out, down through Oregon and the mountains to see some Redwood trees, and then back up. Possibly US1 all the way back. Should be a blast if I can find the right roads.

Any advice here? I've been running without any sort of laser jammer/radar detector. Are there typically speed traps, or more likely patrolling cars?
Would a CB be useful? Are the police more worried about safety or collecting income?
WA police are some of the friendliest nicest police I've encountered anywhere in the country. Even while ticketing you they've been universally polite and even helpful. I don't know what the OR police are like. Prefer not to find out the hard way!

Oregon has the harshast speeding laws. blockers/jammers/detectors sometimes don't matter. If you triple digit speeds plan on Jail/large $ outflow/ and an impounded car
100 miles an hour equals $1k fine and possible 30 days w/o license
wreckless driving equals up to $12,500 fine and possible 1 year w/o license

Weird rules. Penalty for speeding on the highway is a step harsher than speeding on a side road. That I don't get, but whatever, better forewarned at least.
Are they sticklers for the 65mph rule? Or is it more of a "drive with the flow of traffic, we'll nab the guy that stands out"? Suppose I'll find out while driving.

They really aren't that bad unless you drive like a jackass. The revenue collectors tend to be out the last week of every month, and they really beef it up holiday weekends. Just keep your eyes open, laser jammers and detectors would certainly be beneficial.

Should make for a fun trip. Good thing you aren't going to virginia. That place has the most **** cops I have ever seen. They have law now where they hit you with huge fines if you're caught speeding but they offer a payment. Also radar detectors are illegal there

The Three Capes drive mentioned in the article should only be attempted with a high ground clearance vehicle such as the author's Jeep. I had to "blade" the road with my M3. A Porsche would be a disaster. Unfortunately the state has no money for road repairs.
There are many roads that offer great alternatives to the Interstates and US 101 (Coast Highway). Again Oregon's budget constraints tend to limit the majority of state police resources to the main highways. Plan your trips on the state routes and scenic byways, which are every bit as scenic as the main routes, but with a lot less traffic.

Edit:
I think I drove this last time I was down there. Watch out for the locals... there was a lady in a Sentra we could barely keep up with. No kidding.

These are both amazing rides especially the one going through the Gorge, we are only a 20 minute drive from the mouth in Troutdale and it is truly beautiful. Be sure to bring your camera.
