This very rare event features an intimate dinner catered by McCormick and Schmick’s and opportunity to meet with SSC owner and founder Jerod Shelby and ex-Pinninfarina designer Jason Castriota.* Jason will talk about his design experience at Pininfarina and Bertone and his work leading up to and including the next Ultimate Aero, with the opportunity for a unique Questions & Answer session afterward.

Included in the ticket price is a day that begins with admission to the Boeing Museum of Flight as the 2010 Seafair Air Show takes off from Boeing Field. You will also have the opportunity to see the Blue Angels and other military, vintage and specialty aircraft featured in the show during the day of the event.

Also included in the cost of your ticket is a private tour of the Museum of Flight beginning at 5:30pm and access to the outdoor gallery.*

We will make arrangements with an embargo agreement of some kind with just a few photographers. This car is going on the cover of an upcoming magazine and until then we can't do photos or risk the cover shot.

Do you need a little "alone" time with the car?

 

I spoke with Junus from SSC who said the full size model of the car shocked him because of how real it looks. It's being built by the same company that does the models for other Italian companies. A lot of work has already gone into this next car. They are in Italy now and fly back tomorrow. SSC is extremely excited to show it to everyone.

 

how many ultimate aero ssc cars of the current variety have been built and sold?

 

I believe they are on car #14

wow... that is less than I thought and their expenses for r&d on such limited production must be pretty high... no volume really to spread the engineering and r&d costs over...

interesting business model and clearly they are sustaining if 2.0 is coming and designed by big names and modeled by the same company that builds fiats and Audis :-)

Production didn't really begin until 07. Second, you should come and hear the story in person. Here is this tiny little company in Richland, WA who quietly sets out to build the world's fastest production car. It's not as easy as just HP and a long road because it has to be a production car, compete with the ability to remain cool while sitting somewhere. This car has eleven radiators all tucked into a very small frontal area and I don't think many understand just how complicated this is to achieve.

Bugatti set out to capture the world record with the original Veyron only to have it beaten a year later by SSC and what's remarkable is that SSC did it on an actual road! Not a track, no ability to wait for the perfect moment, they did it and it's very difficult when you're getting a speed record certified. You don't get to just call it in. Then there are tire issues, wind issues, the potential for road hazards. Imagine a rabbit hitting a car at 260 mph.

So, then Bugatti decides to meet the challenge and has to redesign the Veyron into the Super Sport in order to beat SSC's world record. It took them millions to do it. If it was so easy someone else would have done it a long time ago. Anyhow, it took Bugatti almost three years to beat SSC's record and this next Ultimate Aero will again meet the challenge.

This event is a very big deal because this is the first time this car will be seen outside of company employees and a few magazine people and Jason will be there in person to talk about the design.

 

you have driven both the veyron and the UASSC... which would you rather have as part of your collection?

 

The original and subsequent Veyron speed runs were made on VW's private 5.6 mile, absolutely ruler flat Ehra-Lessien test track. The track is also tree lined on both sides to limit side winds. Perhaps, a nearly perfect track to make such a high speed test run.
