I got some 94 octane yesterday up in Vancouver BC, and honestly, I couldn't really tell a difference in my Turbo. Hardly worth it, IMHO.

 

Yeah, it wouldn't be worth it to me either, except that I have to pick either a 91 tune flash or a 93 tune flash.... so it looks like I'm going 91. The dyno graphs/etc aren't that far off, was just hoping for more HP, which is always the case. lol.

Still, I wonder why Seattle doesn't get 94... must be a King County thing? Oh well.

 

It's the cost...we're already paying $$$ for 87, 89 and 92. I don't think most would want to spring extra for 94 down here so they probably figured it wouldn't be worth it to bring another type. At least that'd be my guess.

Wouldn't you be better off getting the 93 tune and have it automatically adapt? I think some of them do that.

 

I don't think it'll adapt since it's a complete flash of the stock programming.. I mean, I'll chat with them about it, but I can't imagine they'd offer a 91/93 and 100 tune just for the heck of it.

In a few months I'll be able to "scroll" through all three tunes when I get the update, but for now I'd be stuck with just one. Regardless, I was hoping to keep it in "93" mode, but I don't feel like driving too far out of my way or messing with additives for my daily driver.

I see the expense here, but I remember being able to get 94 in New York when I was younger and that state taxes the heck out of gas too.

Oh well, not a huge deal... just frustrating. I'm going to have to look into buying a gas station and having 94 on tap!

 

Just curious who are you going with? I plan to use Protomotive since they're the best in the business in terms of ECU tweaking.

 

Currently APR has the only ECU tune for the B8 S4 out... well, at least the only complete flash. MTM has a piggyback that doesn't really work all the time and Stasis is supposed to be out soon.

No other real options right now... as for the 997, I'm going to get either a miltek or tubi exhaust and then hunt out a chip tuner. See what I can find... do the research, etc.

I've been listening to exhausts for months and I think I finally have it narrowed down to sound/budget. lol

 

Oh I didn't realize you were doing it for your Audi. I thought you were doing it for your 997TT.

I went with HPA for the ECU mod in my A3.

 

There's a 76 station in Auburn that offers 101 unleaded, but it's probably close to the same price as the Shell station that was mentioned earlier.

Cenex has 94 octane right out of the pump as someone else mentioned, and it actually tends to be less than 92 octane is at most places. I used to run it in my B5 S4 that had APR's 93 octane tune.

Another option is Toluene or Xylene from your local hardware store. Toluene is rated at 114 octane and Xylene is at 117 octane. Both are safe for your fuel system as long as you don't mix them too heavily.

I used to run 1 gallon of Toluene in my B5 S4 mixed in with a minimum of 10 gallons of 92 octane. That effectively gave me a 94 octane mix.

 

I work about a mile from that 76 station. I remember five years ago when they sold the 101 for $5/gal. I'd fill the tank 50/50 every once in a while in my Maggied CTS-V. I swear my butt dyno could tell a difference. Maybe I should drop some in the TT (Cayenne or 911) to see if the butt dyno can tell. The 911 has a Evom Stage 1 tune whereas the Cayenne has a stock tune.

 

sunoco sells 94 back east and we used to map trips according to station locations... ive often wondered the same thing.. why only 93 here... ?!

 

Eric, there are 2 gas stations right by PR that sells 94 octane gas. I believe one is chevron, which i never used. My friends from BC and myself will go to the Cenex. They are less than $4/gallon.

I probably have to google it, it's by hwy 18 in Auburn downtown, same exit as if you are going to Muckleshoot.

 

^^ I believe you are talking about the Cenex station on Auburn Way. It now does not carry 94 anymore. They used to have 90 91.5 and 94. Now all there pumps say 87 89 92 just like every other station.

 

Yeah, the problem is that one or two gas stations here or there is not going to cut it for me... I need the whole state or at least the greater Seattle area to have 94 for it to be worth worrying about.
