WRX STI or EVO X MR ?
I am greatly considering the purchase of either a 2010 WRX STI or EVO X MR. I am looking for some advice from forum members on which one to choose.

How about some questions:
What's the purpose? Daily driver or weekend car?
Street use/track use?
Will you be doing any mods?
How long do you expect to hold on to the car, is re-sale value a concern?

It will be a daily driver with the the likelihood of mods. I have the Hamann Boxster featured on the boxster/cayman forum. So mods are definitely in the forecast.
I test drove both vehicles. My initial impression of the EVO was that I didn't like the transmission system. If you ask me, it seemed liked nothing more than a glorified automatic. However, the six speed manual in the STI seemed much more appropriate. And its looks have grown on me as well. THe STI is a much better looking vehicle in person than any of the photos that I had previously seen.

The Sti Transmission is Chuck Norris proof
As for mods, if your going to put a bigger turbo on the Sti, a wise Idea is to pull the motor and switch out the pistons. The crank and rods are forged, but the stock pistons are not so great, and while you have it out, put some street/strip cams in as you cant replace them without pulling the motor anyways. Do this and youll have a awesome motor ready for tons of mods.
EVO Transmission might be Clay Atkin proof And its common to replace the clutch every 15,000 kms.
The previous Gen Evo with the iron block we nuts. Cheap to mod and could be insane amounts of power without having to pull the motor.
The new Evo X has Alumnium block thats not as sturdy.

Here are my opinions.
Subaru Pros:
Great build quality
Bulletproof AWD, more rwd biased
Bulletproof Tranny
Much nicer interior
Great brakes
Boxer grumble is great
Subaru Cons:
Crappy seats
Mods can be expensive
Mitsubishi Pros:
Great Handler in stock form, better than the STi
AWD system more fwd biased
Great stock seats
Great brakes
Mitsubishi Cons:
Lame looking interior
New generation motor for EVO X
In my opinion, mediocre build quality
Mods can be expensive
EVO X MR, don't like dual clutch tranny. Be careful when modding, might want to do some research to see how much TQ the tranny can handle.
Both cars have hard core loyalists. Both cars have tons of aftermarket support. My choice would be the Subaru. Having owned one I can tell you my 2005 STi was a blast to drive on both street and track.

Thanks for the great feed-back. I agree with most of your opinions.

if the car is for the street, I'd go with the STi.
if more for track duty or spirited driving, i.e. not a daily driver, then I'd get the Evo X.
I believe the Evo X GSR can be had with a 5-speed manual tranny.

Unfortunately, the GSR misses out on the upgraded braking system and I believe the suspension is scaled back in some way as well.

I've done a lot of research into this question as well, lurked on all the STi/EvolutionM sites etc. Everyone has there favorites. But I think the answer at this point could come down to the simple question... Do you want to track it?
Track = Evo X GSR 5 Speed
Daily+mods+aggressive street/canyon + bringing home groceries = Sti
