FD3S RX-7 Track Toy

RA, yes Atomic Rex is the steering rack I was talking about. I do have "large breaks" on the 7 as well. I have 4 piston AP in front and 99 spec in the rear, but the P-car's breaks are in a class by themselves. I have Ferrari F-40 Brembo front and rear breaks on it.
I do alternate between them. I had not been to the track for about 4 years (had to dedicate time to the business), but finally got out again this year. The two cars could not be more different to drive on the track. still both are a total kick in the pants.
BTW, my 7 is 2700 flat with all the liquids. Next step is to change the rear window to lexan on both cars. Have you changed your battery to a lighter one yet?

The AP brakes should be a pretty good set up though, right? Did the F-40 kit hook right up or need modding? I think I have seen a F-40 set on a FD before, but I might be mistaken. I have seen many Porsche brakes on FDs, probably not the same as F-40.
As for track time off, I've been in the same boat, except I have been finishing up school (one more final and I am done!) Racing has taken a back seat, primarily to the lack of funds; but I can't wait to get back out there. The car isn't fully squared away but should be soon.
I had a 12lb Braille battery a couple years ago, but ended up selling it because the car was just sitting there while I was at school. I now have a Westco Mini Miata Battery that weighs 22.8lbs. 2,700 pounds is really good. I take it you mean including gas with all liquids? do you have a full interior? The lexan rear glass saves a lot of weight, especially when mated with the carbon fiber hatch. I haven't seen the numbers on carbon fiber doors, but they won't be an option for me unless I have door cars.
Do you have any updated pictures of your car? I'd love to see them.

Wow there are some amazing cars in this thread, I miss my FD....my neighbor just got an LS1 FD in Montego Blue that I keep begging him to drive. I bet the 7 with the 335's and the nasty LS7 still has no problems breaking the tires lose!

Tripped over this thread going through old emails, and figured I'd breath some new life into it!
Check and check!
Rolled the fenders and picked up a set of CCW Classics - 17x10 +50 255/40 front, 17x11 +50 295/35 rear. I also upgraded the brake package to FrozenRotors by Diversified Cryogenics Cryo-treated Rotors, Hawk HP+ brake pads, Hard Brakes 0.02" Titanium Brake Shims, and Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid. Pads are quite dusty, but a phenomenal set up; perfect for the lightweight RX-7!
Also made some minor updates under the hood - primarily a Rotary Extreme bespoke twin turbo v-mount intercooler set up
And some updates to the exterior
Let's see some more RX-7's!

New to these forums. Nice seeing other RX-7 owners in here. I currently have three FDs, all '94s, all different trims.
Rotary-Amuse, how have you found your braking with your current setup? I have Brembo BBK on one of my FDs and switched to full 99 setup on one of the others and find that the 99s seem more balanced and more firm.
Also, not sure if I missed it in your upgrade list, but what offset are those wheels?

I considered an AP kit, but it's more than enough for the amount of power I'm putting down.
The CCW offsets are +50, 7.5" backspacing. They're for sale if you're interested

I've started collecting parts with the FD being in hibernation for the the New England winter. I picked up a Seibon carbon fiber hatch and Flex-A-Lite polycarbonate rear window. Should save a lot of weight. The FD should be going to the body shop soon.

I'm from Chicopee, but recently moved to NorCal and might move the car that way as well. Love your taste!

Thanks - I love your set up as well. What size are your CCW's?

Thanks! I would love a Turbo II - clean ones are hard to come by

Rick seriously you have 1 sick fd. I always wanted a FD back in the day but didn't want to deal with the headaches since it would've been my only car. I got a z32TT instead back in 99.
I'm considering to pick one up win LS motor swapped or s2000 mainly for tracking.

Thanks for the compliment! I've had my own fair share of headaches over the past 11 years of ownership, but nothing because it was a rotary. Like any car, if you take care of it and respect limitations, it can be as safe and reliable as anything else.
I have driven a few LS powered RX-7s and can see the appeal, but I would still recommend a rotary powered RX-7 that hasn't been modified or only has reliability mods (upgraded radiator, down pipe, new vacuum lines, upgraded intercooler, upgraded computer with a tune from a reputable tuner).
My friend Tony's track prepped S2000 is a lot of fun and is great out on track with basic power adders, upgraded brakes and suspension, and some aero. Also not a bad option for a track toy.
I raced with a Cayman owner at Monticello Motor Club a few years back who loved racing his car. It looks like you do from your avatar pic, but do you track yours?
As far as my FD goes, I'm giving it a full wheels and aero overhaul.
I've sold the CCWs for a set of 18" Volk TE37's, a wheel I've lusted over since I had my GSR almost fifteen years ago. I'll be dropping approximately 18.4 pounds in unsprung weight over the CCW / Kumho set up, which will pay dividends on track. I went with gloss black, which is a special order (white and bronze are standard) from Japan so there's a bit of a wait, but it's well worth it. I believe my set is at or should be at the docks soon, so they should be ready for pick up within the month. I will be ordering a set of 285/30 AD08Rs within the next few weeks to round out the set up.
As far as aero goes, I'm changing just about everything to give me as much of a track advantage for my lower power level set up twin turbos. In addition to the carbon fiber hatch with lexan rear window, CF hood, CF rear diffuser, CF low profile spoiler, and CF side skirts, I'm adding wider (+25mm) carbon fiber front fenders, a Total Car Produce (TCP) Magic FRP front bumper, TCP CF/FG front diffuser, TCP CF front canards, TCP CF front diffuser end plates, a CF Voltex Type 2 wing, and Craft Square carbon touring mirrors. I'm also working with a composite company to develop custom carbon fiber side diffusers.
Everything has been ordered or is already in: the fenders, bumper, front diffuser, and front diffuser end plates are in, the canards should be here shortly, the wing should be in by mid to late July, and the mirrors should be here by mid August. I'm waiting for everything before I bring it into the bodyshop, so it should be all wrapped up by the end of summer.
I will also be tackling a transmission swap to a 2001 series 8 transmission, so I'll have my work cut out for me.
These videos from Monticello and a dyno session are older, but I figured I'd share them.
