What is Porsche thinking?

Well, honesty I am very much in favor of the Panam. Still not sure of the rear. I as well as other owners of Porsches have historically been very vocal and many times critical of the product. [Why else would porsche be building the 911 for 40 years. People are tough on the 911 in general.] Also I find that it makes these threads more interesting. I have been told by AM enthusiasts that I am to critical of the Rapide on the AM threads. Stating that AM is trying to hard to disguise the Rapides four doors yielding a "DB9 cigar". Porsche is very honest with the Panam and not trying to make it look like a coupe. The Aston people wonder why I've been so critical of the Rapide. It has brought up much dialog on both sides. These companies are now in a market that are dominated by other marks. If they are to succeed they must hit it right on as there are many other choices of these types with a large following. I am actually in the process of selling the Vanquish and my current Ceyenne to be replaced by a single auto. We're torn between the Panam and the XKR. The wife is saying we keep the Ceyenne, and simply add a new spyder. Could be the winning choice. Looks perfect for the summer and is possibly a keeper. [And it should be popular at the high schools - Smile]

I happened to have grown up in the swamps of South Louisiana...so the term is a little too familiar to me.
As to whether Mr VanquishV12 is crawfishing??? I'll leave it to others to decide. Maybe the Panamera-flavored KoolAid is just an acquired taste

Good point. Seems like the bandwagon is gaining riders daily.

I might be... it does makes for a good thread. With that said....Still unsure if the introduction of the six was in Porsches plan from day one or was this model injected into the mix from parent company VW? What is unique to the Panam is the amazing performance. Appears to be the single most constant from all. Does everyone here feel that the Panasix is a good thing? Six or Sicks?

Now that I have a PanS, I'm not so thrilled about the 6 coming around. Before, I was actually interested in how the 6 performs.
I see it as Porsche's effort to expand their market potential, but it's still a fairly high price for a 6-cyl 'sport/luxury' sedan. The Cayenne 6 is at a price point that it truly does expand the market potential in the $45k-$60k zone. But anyone planning to pay a (realistic) price of $80k+ for 'luxury' car isn't going to want to explain why they went with the V6. I'm sure it will sell well, which in turn will allow Porsche to develop more cars like the C-GT, GT3 models & 918 Spyders...

"...which in turn will allow Porsche to develop more cars like the C-GT, GT3 models & 918 Spyders..."
exactly and as long as they continue to develop such dream cars like the 918 etc., they can introduce as many V6 or Diesel versions of the Cayenne and Panamera as they want.

I'm concerned of having to hear..."6 or 8?" At the very least how about a different model number. How about it Porsche? [I.E. 914/914-6 or 912/911] I say we distinguish these two cars as the "Pana-six" / "Pana-eight". I can see the general public thinking the "S" stands for "Six" I still hear many that think a 911T is a Targa. Any better ideas?

This only matters if you care what other people think.
If you like your car for how it drives, how it looks, and how it fits into your life what difference does it make if it’s a hybrid, rotary, 4 cylinder, 12 cylinder or runs on pixie dust?
If your main purpose in purchasing a car is how you look in it or how you are perceived by others then you are basically the human equivalent of a strutting pea****. There are plenty of those out there, I just have interest in being one of them.

I agree. Porsche usually gives each product a designation as a way to distinguish it when the engine is different. For example the 911 had T, E, R, S and L to distinguish each. This is typical Porsche practice as is others. In china where the car is now availible they have designated the V6 simply as the Panamera with no specific designation.

Hey! I know who you are Mr. Vanquishv12. You're having a great time here.
6 or 8? Who cares. Porsche was smart to introduce their first sedan with incredible performance stats. They captured the automotive press. Now its “getting down to business” with the Panamera6 [or is it sicks?]. The 6 will be the first Porsche bought by Hotel chains to limo guests to and from the airport. You are correct about China. Porsche wants a share of that gigantic SClass/BMW market where they could sell a zillion Pana’s and if they’re lucky a dozen 997s.

Let's be honest here. The Pan6 is going to serve the same purpose the Cayenne6 does... A cheaper, but still pretty expensive, way to get in to a P-car. If I had a dollar for every poser I see driving around here in their Cayenne6's thinking they're hot **** I'd forget about college and retire at the ripe age of 18.
