Oil burning - one more time

New V6 with under 1000 miles driven normally during this period.

Oil gauge down half way between "full" and "low".

Seems like a lot for such few miles. This unsusual or is it likely due to break in period?

The manual states that 600 miles per quart is possible so you aren't near the limit at 1/2 qrt per 1000 miles. I got 3600 miles per 1/2 qrt during breakin and am quite happy with that, reached 6000 miles using about 1`qrt when the dash told me an oil change was due. The manual doesn't say anything about an oil change before 10000 miles, so I'm wondering how the car got so smart. Does it monitor contamination, mileage or stop/starts?

During break in you will probably have your most oil consumption. I'm at 1000 miles and I have not had an oil light come on yet telling me to add oil. The manual actually states the ar can consume 1.6quarts per 621 miles, which I think is very extreme. Maybe if you were tracking the car a lot.

Graucho, what oil "guage" are you referring to? The only guages I see are the oil temp and oil pressure guages. There is a warning light for the low oil level.

In the dashboard "vehicle" screen you can "rotate" through the menu choices and there is a choice for "oil level". That will show a scale for oil level with 4-5 bars, top "full", low "low".

It is normal for all Porsches. Every one of them I've owned did it. It will get better with usage.

Mine burned a quart during the first 2000 miles; hasn't really burned any over the next 10,000 (couple of changes in there too though). Drop the hammer.
