Radar hardwire

Called my dealer today about price on hardwiring my passport 9500i.
Initial quote was about $200 ($140 labor, $60 parts)
He just called back saying that he needs to install a voltage converter. I thought all modern cars use 12v. Called EscortRadar, they have never heard of modern cars that can't accept 12v.

Any thoughts?

If you are hardwiring a windshield mounted radar detector in a Panamera, read this ...

Thanks.
So, there's no need for a voltage converter?

No need for it. If you have some fear of it, you can hard wire in a second power outlet to the fuse box, and hide that under your dash. Route your detector cord to it and plug it in. This may be what you want to do if you are thinking of splicing the cord to your radar detector. This will save you the trouble, and you can always pull it out and use it in another vehicle later. I don't know if your detector comes with a hard wire kit or not.

Not trying to start a holy war because I know people can get about their radars but I highly recommend you look into the new K40 RL360. It was released about 6-9 months ago.

I've owned 3 ValentineOne's which I loved but wanted something built in. When I had my C4S, I installed the 9500i. Was pretty good but boy did I miss the directional indication of where radar was coming from.

When I got my Panamera Turbo, I researched the K40 RL360 and had that installed. I couldn't be happier. It has 2 blue LEDs drilled into the dashboard. One represents front radar and one rear. It also has audible alerts much like the 9500i. What I like better is it has a wireless remote that can be put up on the visor like a garage clicker for muting, volume, marking spots (GPS built in).

Anyway, I like it a lot better and at $2k you may just want to look at it before deciding on the 9500i.

Good luck!
