Turn it to the far left and hold it that way 30-40seconds. You will hear a click that unlocks the mechanism and you can then remove it.

When you turn to the left you only need to hold for about 10-15 seconds.

It only feels like 30 seconds when you forget and need to remove it at the car wash and there is a line waiting behind you.

The click is loud and has tactile feedback thru the key. You can't miss it.

If your car has Porsche Entry & Drive there is a hard plastic "blank" key that goes into the ignition key slot to the left of your steering wheel. It stays in place and you can then just turn it to start the car while leaving the actual ignition key in your pocket.

The blank key should be in your owners manual or glove box.

I must add. The key looks like it cost Porsche about 12 cents to produce. Could have done a better job with it. I would have preferred a removable button like MB uses.

The above removal procedure will not work on pan 2012 models. They changed the blank key removal procedure. The entry and drive control unit key is now removed using same method as regular key removal under dead battery condition. It involves emergency operation using metal hook and removing plastic cover on ignition lock. Ie pain in the --- procedure.

Can't they just copy the MB system? That would probably be too simple though.

Excuse my ignorance and stupidity, but if you remove this key how would the valet move the car? Why a carwash? I kinda understand the tow truck... Kinda...

Valet etc uses regular key in ignition lock. If blank key is in ignition the poor valet will get confused as to where to put the real key. Same for car wash.

I've never removed the key. If I valet, I hand him the regular key which he puts in his "safe." I've never had a questioning look or been asked for directions. There's never been a delay while one of them figured it out. I'm sure that mine is not the first one they've seen. They've been out for 2+ years.

When I go to the car wash, I just drop the regular key in the drink holder. The procedure goes off without a hitch and the regular key is still in the drink holder when the car comes back to me. Again, my Panamera (or Cayenne) is not the first one they've seen. These people are not as stupid as some of you think they are.

On occasion, I've forgotten to leave the key in the drink holder and left the car running. When I am out of range of the car, the instrument panel informs the car wash people "key not found" and they know not to turn it off or if they accidentally do, to find me and request the key.

It is not a problem.
