Reverse camera

Anyone that their Panamera didn't come with the reverse camera look into getting it? I saw that a Nav tv website offers it. Anyone attempt it?

So here's a link to what i was referring to. Anyone else looked into this? I'm curious if the factory wiring is in place to the rear and just need to purchase the factory camera..

Try searching this on youtube. I remember seeing a detailed video from NAV-TV demonstrating their rear cam solution on Panamera

It looks like a lot of wiring is needed.

Speaking of the rear camera... Is there a hack that would allow you to use the Porsche-supplied rear camera while you're driving forward? It's left on for a short amount of time after reversing and then going forward so it does have that capability.

Thanks ! I did find that one, what is missing is if that is a factory camera they are using with a factory harness that is already there or do we have to run a new wire from the dash to the rear. That part looks easy enough to do, which is Great .. hoping he rear is just as plug and play

No one else attempt this?

I'm almost positive that a new camera and wiring is needed. Porsche wouldn't lay around a free cable and a camera in there if no option is selected

To answer the other question, I'm not sure but I think you can kinda cheat and go into brightness settings of the rear camera and have picture in there even if you're not in R. (if I don't mistake this with BMW iDrive). Give it a try. I don't know when it will cut the picture though. There is no official way of having the camera picture on if you're in Drive.

Equally I'd be very surprised if they had custom harnesses for each car based on options selected, certainly the fuseboxes are wired up for all options, there are simply fuses missing (and obviously the electronics at the ends of the harness). Watch the National Geographic Porsche Factory documentary, you'll see them installing the harness, it's one "standard" bundle.

a lot of manufactures have one harness instead of a harness for each option as they use, because the cost of wire is less than the cost to focus on what harness for what options. makes more plug and play down the line and much much easier.

I use to work on the line in manufacturing when i was putting myself through school as a temporary job.

I don't have the reversing camera but I'm now inclined to unscrew the bottom part of the tailgate and have a look if the requisite wires are there.

The wires are not there. I installed the Nav-TV solutinand it works seamlessly and intergrates with the pcm perfectly.

Is it RF or do you have to run wires the length of the car?

Glad to hear as that's the same module I just ordered ... Did you do it or have it done?

Took a sneak peek inside the hatch, and as dhh said no wires, and the unit is not RF so you have to run wiring.. Fun Fun
