Sport design package
#32
Reviving this thread. Need help. I might need to replace the matte black plastic piece that sits below the rear bumper on my 2014 4S. I believe this part is called the rear apron. This part is $800 (CDN). There is a “Sport Design” rear apron that is available for $2400 (CDN). Seems like a lot extra for the Sport Design option (will be extra $1600). Want to because it’s cool but not sure if it’s worth it?
Need some opinions from fellow enthusiasts. Need to hear both sides of the decision….naysayers and enablers chime in please!
Here’s my current set up:
My current rear apron.
Rendering of the Sport Design Rear Apron:
Looks like the Sport Design rear apron is painted to match the body colour and has “fins”.

Worth it. Fortunately the first owner of my PTT ordered the lower body painted so my rear apron was body color. Makes the car look a lot less cheap when eliminating the rough black plastic. Ordered my Taycan with painted mirror lowers. I find it odd more cars aren't ordered with painted trim.

Can I have the body shop simply sand, prep, and paint the new stock (black) rear apron the colour of the car?

1. SD comes paint ready (does not come painted from Porsche so still needs to be painted at body shop).
2. SD has fins on the central undersurface.
My body shop can paint the stock apron (sand, prime, paint) for about $300.
I ran the numbers and the cost DIFFERENCE will be about $1800 CDN (all in) to upgrade to the SD apron vs. simply getting the stock + paint!
I’m leaning towards just painting the new stock apron. Only difference will be no diffuser-like fins on the undersurface.

Keep me posted if you decide to go the route of just painting the stock apron.
Was considering doing the same with mine to jet black metallic to match the car paint but wasn't sure how the paint would hold up on the plastic finish.
