Tint question

Had my panny GTS tinted. Installer put felt (really the soft side of Velcro) along the hard rubber/plastic of the windows at bottom to eliminate the scratching problem. Being it is summer, will the extreme heat cause the glue on the Velcro to give? Anyone have experience with this? Really not much I can do as thunderstorms can come at anytime so I would not leave the windows cracked the entire day car is not in use. This car stays outside. TIA.

I have the felt protection on the tinted windows on my PTT. So far no problem over the past year in the San Diego heat. I usually don't crack my windows either. You should be fine if done by a good installer.

Frankly, I never open the windows on this car.., its weird... It's such an awesome ride, tight,,, quiet, until the sound symposer cranks that exhaust... Love it. Every other car, always had windows down.

That said, my gts tinted as well.. No felt... No scratches either...I think you'll be fine

Enjoy that bad boy!

Thanks guys. Looks like the felt strips are giving way in the rear. I'm in Boston with family and the car is outside all day. I guess I will see what happens. Just don't want the felt to get sucked into the door if they totally detach.

Local installer who does the local dealer said he doesn't do the felt but rather advises panamera owners to take a wet micro once or twice a month and wipe down rubber pieces where the dirt gets stuck. If I lose the felt I might try that. Really shouldn't be a problem in the back as the windows will not go down much.

There is also a site called tintprotector.com that says their felt can withstand the temps inside a car and is specially made for that purpose. As indicated above, the felt used by my installer is simply the soft side of Velcro. I looked up the temp range of Velcro and it seems to be 140 plus but is not holding.

+1 on http://www.tintprotector.com

I have used their felt on a few of my cars with zero issues over the years. Highly recommended stuff.

Michael, saw your post on rennlist as well.

It sounds like the rubber seals were not cleaned properly for the adhesive to bind to.

Have your installer remove the current felt, clean the rubber guide with adhesive remover and then with alcohol, then apply a new felt

Thanks Moe. Spoke with installer today. He comes highly recommended by people on this board and I saw him clean the rubber. I am going to stop by tomorrow after work so he can take a look. He said, very nicely, that I am being a bit **** about the felt, which is certainly the case with my cars. On the very, very hot days, if I see glue streaking to leave the windows up and the felt will stay in place. He said he has done many Panny's and that it is not an issue. Once in a while the felt will fail and he installs a new one. I'm sure it will all work out...... thanks for the tips.
