Crocketthood, after you plug your iPhone 4S into the USB, the Source should show an iPod option, and the PCM takes over the iPod control, if not, are you able to play music through the iPhone's own speaker? Do you have the Online Service option?

You will have to get a newer version of the IPOD.
The iPod classic works fine on mine, MY13 PTT.

The PCM should display iPod connected within 5-10sec of connecting.

When I plug my iPhone 4S, iPod classic, or iPod touch in, and then hit the source button, I don't get an iPod feature. The only options my PCM shows is am, fm, sat, and disc. What am I doing wrong? I'm missing something or something is turned off by the previous owner? Does my PCM need and update from the dealer maybe?

TGED, if I am understanding your question correctly.... Yes, I can hear my music playing on my iPhones built in speaker when it isn't plugged in, but once I plug it in the music stops I believe. I will double check this as soon as I leave work and will post. What is the online service option?

The Online Service is a factory option, it allows the PCM to play content from an app called AHA radio, you need to download this app onto your iPhone, and once you plug in your iPhone, the source will show an AHA option. This option is available on Porsche vehicles built in or after Nov, 2012.
I suggest to put some songs (in mp3 format) onto an USB stick and try it out, you PCM is capable of playing music files from an USB stick. Just try it and see what happens?

I don't have the online option then because mine is a 2010. I will try the USB stick thing ASAP. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow for an oil change. I will ask them about the whole iPod issue.

I know in my previous GTS and Panamera I could "hide" the sources I didn't want to see. Make sure that you have selected "show all sources."
On the current Porsche PCM, there is no such thing as "show all sources", the PCM always show the basic sources, AM, FM, DISC, AUX and SAT(if equipped), and it also shows if a device is plugged into the USB port. It shows iPod if an i-device is connected(iPod, iPhone or iPad) and it shows USB when an USB thumb drive is connected. It will also show AUXBT when a smart phone is paired for Bluetooth music playback. However, it does not show AUXBT when the smart phone is only paired for Bluetooth hands free phone use. On the newer PCM that has an internal hard drive for music storage, the basic source also includes JUKEBOX.

I believe some of the 2010 requires a special cable for iPod playback. Basically, it is a twin cable set up, where you connect the USB port and the AUX port. This is an analog set up where the sound is play through the AUX port which is an analog input and the USB port is used for iPod function control. This may be why you are not getting any sound through your PCM. Porsche has since switched to single cable USB input which the digital audio signal is input through the USB port.

Maybe this is my issue?? I will inquire about this with my dealer and post and update tomorrow afternoon. I appreciate all the help so far.
Quick question, if it is the twin cable (analog) that I need, will my sound be degraded since it's analog versus if it was the newer (through the USB only) version?

It probably won't be degraded much that you can hear a big difference but in theory an all-digital signal path is better. If your PCM can play directly from an USB stick, it is probably the best way, as you are importing digital music files directly into the PCM and all the D/A conversion and various signal processing is performed within the PCM.

Turns out my PCM required the old school cord. iPod feature is working now. I haven't had a chance to plug a USB stick in directly to see if that works. It's good to have the iPod working through the screen now.

I was having the same issues with my Galaxy s4. I am currently playing music with bluetooth, but would still like to figure out how to play the music through the cord as well. I have got to the point of it recognizing the phone as a usb stick of sorts. But when I press on an MP3 to play, it says its an unrecognized format.... Any ideas?

Bluetooth audio is completely digital so as long as your device supports the latest protocols and the source wasn't digitized with a lossy codec it should be as accurate a reproduction as with a cable, better than using a 3.5mm jack since that is analogue and exposed to distortion + external noise.

Sorry but you're wrong. Bluetooth audio will never sounds as good as wired even if you device supports the non-mandatory codec. Most smartphones uses the SBC codec which converts your audio file to a lower quality before transmitting due to bluetooth bandwidth and processing power limitations.

The galaxy s4 uses the new APT-X codec, which I believe is considered almost lossless. Can anyone confirm the panamera utilizes this?

I have tried to turn up the sound really loud and it seems to sound great through bluetooth and my burmester.
