Maserati was willing to sell at 10-11% off sticker no problem. I was needing 20% to make the two GTS models remotely comparable. It really was a whoever-came-through-first situation and both dealers knew that. Porsche secured my date so I never got a definitive answer on my 20% off offer. Maserati called a couple times to ask for my patience and did not make a counter-offer, so I assumed they were working on it and not just wasting their breath. I'll never know.

The Maserati made me nervous in several ways. Video reviews all point out the interior lacks the feel of its price range, and without the $10,000 luxury package upgrade, misses the mark completely IMHO. But I digress. I would have bought it at the price I offered.

The Porsche seems downright sensible by comparison. Less expensive, better performance, better interior, and my guess is better overall build quality. It will be very interesting to see how Maserati does with their ambitious plan to increase sales 10-fold. I noticed they had a classy Super Bowl add. Which makes me puzzled they didn't counter-offer and let me walk lazily away to Porsche...

Porsche lured my family just like they planned: first with the Cayenne, now with the Panamera.

No money has exchanged hands.
Guess who called.
This is so fun! I get to continue thinking about cool cars! Maserati is within 2% but I'm not budging. It's black on black fully loaded with luxury package, 1250 watt stereo, the entire package Maserati offers.
My wife will hate me for even bringing this up, and it's why I hope you all don't mind hearing my first world problems.

For my .02, there is no way on earth I would choose the Maserati over the Panny GTS....this car is hands down, the best car I have ever owned. I have not ever owned a Maserati, but I have driven my friends several times, and there is simply no comparison. In addition, while the Panny gets some issues regarding the looks, it is a unique look that really grows on peoples. It's perhaps just me, but that Maserati is unremarkable. Plus, whats worse, is that the rear end, looks like a Toyota Avalon.

Get the Panny GTS for all of the reasons you identify....you will not regret it

Such good problems to have indeed! Nice when they are calling you, that is when the deals get good. Good luck with your final decision, but don't let $ make the decision, make it based on which car you want to drive everyday! That is the car you will own 5 years later, the other one will be gone in a year or two and the $ will be lost!

Enjoy the hunt - all part of the fun!

Prior to getting my 2014 PTT I tried as hard as I could to like the new Maserati but it was just boring to drive - the older version was far more fun - they made it bigger and softer and more boring. You can get great deals on both cars but in the end the common trim pieces with the Chrysler 300 and the uninspired driving experience killed my interest in the Maserati. The standard vinyl trim unless you get that 10k luxury package is also stupid for a 150K car. The interior is a bit bland and disappointing I thought - I loved the older quirky car.

The only thing I will say is that I think the new Maserati will be more exclusive as I have yet to see one on the road in 5 months since their release. Either way you will get a neat car - get what you enjoy - if you need 5 place seating that could tip the favor towards Maserati

You never see them on the road, because no one is buying them...

Seriously, who offers a 20%+ discount off of a car at that price point? you KNOW you are getting your ba--s ripped off at that point.

get -the-panny

Might as well put my .02 cents in. I owned a Quattroporte S in 2009. I know they've made some changes and I can't speak of current quality, but I can say with complete certainty that I will never own another Maserati. My ownership experience was a disaster. Leather door panel and dash trim peeled off during first week and they asked me to wait 6-8 months for replacement (no joke), the handling of the car was dangerous at best, and both my wife and I both refer to is having "Maserati legs" while driving above 50mph. Both of us literally would shake a little praying the car wouldn't fall apart or wipe out. Power was ok and of course the exhaust is awesome. Seats were uncomfortable and hard, electronics were from the 70's. But what did them in for me was Maserati's attitude. They don't care! They claim because it's hand built we have to accept certain defects in workmanship and appreciate that fact. Nasty and arrogant are an understatement.

Now, I bought mine because of the "incredible" discount I got. It was $147,00 Msrp, was brand new, and I got it for $94,000. The car was "punched" couple months earlier for dealer rebate purposes but warranty stated on date of my purchase. How incredible a deal was this? When I traded in this piece of crap 4 months later, I still lost nearly $20,000. So where's the bargain?

Run, run away and enjoy your new GTS!

(P.S. This I my experience, others of course may thoroughly enjoy their Maserati and I wish them happiness)

Based on your comments is the "Front end noise" thread, it unfortunately sounds as if your Panamera GTS is not one stitch better than the Maserati, Wassy! At one point you even say you might lemon-law it... hardly a recommendation for either vehicle. Yikes!

Rattleithome, interesting takeaway and guilty as charged! Lol. Your point is understood but not the reality in my case. First, I don't own a GTS, but rather an S. This is my second Panamera S and I bought again because the first one was the very best car I have ever owned, period. I do have some issues with my current Panamera and my preference is to have them fixed. However, the noises are bothersome enough that if I can't get it fixed, then selling it or requesting a lemon law replacement may be an option. I think, in my opinion, my panamera has a few problems in the car whereas with the Maserati, the car is the problem. Again, they may have changed it since I owned it but the worst part of the Maserati was the handling. I felt unsafe at any speed (thank you Ralph Nader).

To put it in other words, I would go out of my way to ensure my friends never buy a Maserati Quattroporte but will gladly assist them in purchasing a Panamera.

I happen to be at the Porsche dealer now with the factory rep, who did agree with some of the issues and another attempt to fix will be forthcoming. They didn't agree on all of them, and the tranny clunk when slowing to a stop is apparently normal. I still disagree but it is what it is. I'd buy another one. One key difference is that from what I see, Porsche is at least willing to "try". Maserati wouldn't hear of it. Hope that helps and I so hope you are thrilled either way you go!

RattleItHome,

I have had more time with our 2014 Panamera GTS and the 2014 Maserati QP GTS. Without hesitation I can tell you the Panamera GTS is, to me, so much more entertaining and enjoyable as a daily driver. I enjoy it so much that I have not once jumped in my 911 cab S once in the last 3 weeks, preferring the rumble of the GTS engine and the extra daily comfort. Guess I am getting old? The Maserati is nice to go out to dinner in or to use once in a while for something different, but having owned them both for a few weeks, it is crystal clear to me that the Panamera is the FAR better car if you enjoy driving. The Maserati is more like an incredibly sounding Lexus. Really. If the car is for you (not the wife) get the Panny. Much more 'sporty' and engaging driver. You will not regret it.

Porsche still hasn't come up with a build spot. It sounds like all allocations through August at least are solidly spoken for. For me to place an order might require someone else walking away from their deposit.
It feels so weird to have this kind of buying power and not be able to exercise it. Porsche is simply unable to take my money. What do the sales guys do all day if they have to turn down cash deals? I'm a little frustrated and am broadening my horizons to the CLS63 s-AMG. Maserati still in the picture.

Gts demand is likely to outstrip supply for some time given it's special qualities that are well advertised on this forum so allocations are going to be hard to come by.

The Porsche dealer called and PROMISED and GUARANTEED I would have the next available build spot in North America. Apparently they are building the heck out of the Macan? Sold out for a year on that one. They're going to discount me some more too he said, which I plan on rolling into the most ridiculous option that will complete my build: mahogany sill guards. I just have to sit tight. No Maserati GTSs have moved in a month, so that plan is still an option.
