Sport (paddle shift) or multifunction steering wheel
#18
Have had both and I prefer the Sport hands down. Looks better and the only function not able to with it is volume. I find that I hit the buttons by accident with the multifunction plus it just isn't sporty enough. Now the new wheels from the 918 looks good and had the multifunction.
Also the material on the sport wheel is metal that is clear coated. Not sure about he comment about cheap plastic...

you are in Michigan - the heat function is not on the Sport. makes it an easy decision in the cold climate areas.

so do I. Too lazy to care about shifting gears hence never felt the need for the pedals or the switches on the wheel. Put it in sports mode and it does the rest for me. If I want it to go fast gas it and it changes gears. So I wonder who is switching them gears manually?

somewhere on this forum there is a picture of the wheel that was made for me, it a thicker version of the multi function wheel and I have the Techart paddles on it, I call it the best of both worlds.

I thought I wanted a sport wheel but found a Panamera Turbo S exactly the way I wanted it but with the multi wheel. Went for it and don't regret it. This is my daily driver and like being able to work the phone/audio from the steering wheel. Have my eye out for a 911gts and would likely get that with a sport wheel because I would want to track it. Only real reason I can see for the sport wheel is to track since the PDK transmission is so good.

I have both, since my 991 Turbo has Sport Wheel and it's great. However the MF wheel is perfect for my Pan, since it's a DD I like being able to turn up/down radio, answer phone ect without moving my hands off the wheel.

I've test driven a bunch of these and mine is on the way. I have to say that the functionality on the wheel seems like it would matter a lot more often than the paddles if you're using it as a DD. If going to the track, or if you know that you really like to shift manually - and the stick doesn't scratch the itch - you might consider after market paddles on the multifunction.

Where can I buy the TechArt Paddles? Any idea of the cost?
I definitely want to modify my multi-function steering wheel and get a real set of paddle shifters for my GTS.
To me, the design of the shifters on the multi-function steering wheel is a big failure on the part of Porsche. Why would they not put real paddles on all of their wheels?
With the TechArt paddles, is the upshift on the right paddle and the downshift on the left paddle?

CEC is the techart distributor in the US, the paddles will cost you around $1100 and then you'll have to find someone to install them which requires some degree of knowledge. When installed the left paddle is to downshift, the right paddle is to upshift and they have dummy buttons on the front of the steering wheel that do nothing. It's definitely a best of both worlds scenario if you can justify the cost
