Help! Battery issue...?

Hi everyone,

Yesterday after work I got in my vehicle, tried to start my car...

I turn the key and all of the lights turned on my dash and my headlights began flickering.... then my car would not start.

On the Navi screen, I have a message on the bottom "voltage shutdown protection"

I scroll through the display and see the battery voltage... It is at about 11.8V. Normally, I am used to seeing 14.2V when I am normal cruising mode driving.

I tried to jump the vehicle with attaching the battery jump pack and I see that the voltage increase to 12.1V but nothing further...

Car still would not start...

Any suggestions, diagnosis...?

Thank you in advance for all your input.

(background on my vehicle...I drive the car 4-5 times a week take approximately 2 to 5 mile trips during that time period... so total drive time is about 20 miles ish... average. Car is 2010 Panamera Turbo... 17k miles on the odometer)

Aloha~

Aloha,

It's time to change the battery, at this time it's around 7 years old.

Best Regards

What about volatile memory? Once the battery is disconnected, all the settings are gone.

Plug in a battery tender to the power outlet while changing it, no issues.

I didn't bother trying to keep any volatile memory. I just swapped out the battery. Even the radio stations stay programmed, just the station you were on when last shut down gets lost, radio is set to some random station. Didn't really notice any other big concern. (Maybe the default display items on the right side instrument cluster screen gets reset. Not a big deal to me in my opinion).

It needs to be registered with the computer. Let me see if I remember the details:

Manufacturer
Ah rating
Part #
Serial #
Date of installation

Mine died on me again this winter (did last winter too) when it got really cold. Took 3 days on a trickle charger to get it going. This year I said screw it and bought an antigravity battery, so I will never lose power again (built in restart capability). I think I’ll put one in the Cayman too.

I have discovered that German cars (Porsche, Audi, VW) like to be on a trickle charger when they are not being driven everyday.

Jzchen, How is this done? Is it something you can do with the Icarsoft Por II or do you need something else, also what are the issues with this if you don’t update that info? I’ve read multiple threads that some people did it and some people didn’t do it and had no issues. Most of the videos I’ve seen never address updating anything.

Scott, I used a Foxwell NT644 Pro to program the new battery. I'm afraid I do not have any other tool compatible with Porsche. I do not recommend the NT644 Pro because I could not see what I was doing.

I replaced the battery in a hurry because we were leaving for a funeral about 2 hours away in San Diego. I did not program it and observed similar voltages as with the old battery 13 V to 14.5 V range. After programming a few days later I notice it lower the voltage range, even down to 12.4 V or so after sitting with a charger and charged to full. Since the 13 V to 14.5 V range may not be harmful to the battery I suspect that is why people have gotten away with not programming it.

I posted this before but I think the thread title was not related to batteries so it's probably better here:

Please pardon my work clothes.

That is only if its installed by dealer ($$$) and only if its a Porsche Battery. Serial # has to be recognized as a Porsche battery. There a loads of great batteries that are not “Porsche batteries” that are as good or better and half the price. You can do it yourself and save the ridiculous install cost of dealer

No it’s not.
Any new battery should be recorded, regardless of the manufacturer. It’s not life and death but It’ll shorten the life of your new battery, and possibly your alternator if you don’t.
The gateway module stores a huge amount of data about the performance of the battery.
