We got the plates today. Happy, I went out to install them, and instead of an expected rear bracket I just found two holes. Is this normal? Is there a bracket I should request from the dealer? (I fixed the mirror at absolutely no cost to them so hopefully they'd provide one if there is one....

That doesn't look quite right to me - I'd bring the car and the plates back to the dealer as they probably have a bracket in their parts dept that they need to consider parting ways with.

I might be using the wrong terminology, and I apologize. We bought from a non-Porsche store. Is that a shop then, and I shouldn’t use “dealer” to begin with?

I'd forgotten you purchased from a non-Porsche dealer, but they should still provide a car that you can mount a required license plate on. I'd still pay them a visit while they still remember who you are - maybe they'll even offer to get the mounting bracket for you. However, if you're picky and want a nice PORSCHE frame then I'd be checking eBay
