Noise under car when making slow sharp turn
#17
Actually it is the skipping noise of summer tires when making slow sharp turn. I just replaced with all seasons tires and the skipping, hopping is gone. Thanks everyone.

@ScottDy Said it best - it's normal, but annoying. It's the geometry of the wheels, and more than just the Panamera re at fault.
I got rid of my 2003 996 TT because it was a heavy clunking noise from front end and I did not want to spend more into it. Traded it in.... Now that I know it was "normal" it makes me a bit more pissed, but Porsche doesnt really tell you this. After now owning 6 Porsche's I can say, it's normal and to expect it. Especially in reverse with the wheel turned.

No, it’s not a control arm issue, it’s the geometry of the front end suspension. The way it’s designed, the outside tire on a sharp turn at slow speed ( like turning out of a parking space) gets dragged sideways and the suspension creaks as it drags the tire. The outside tire isn’t at the same degree of inclination as the inside tire. It’s weird but it only becomes apparent when it’s wet or when the tires are nearing the minimum tread depth.

I can’t speak for other Porsche models although I had an early boxster and never experienced this issue. I know it’s normal on Panameras and I think that’s because of the cars size and the way the front end geometry is set up to allow it the kind of handling it has, for such a large and heavy car it is really quite nimble and that’s because the suspension is tweaked to perform at speed.

This type of sound is common across top sports car marquees. I had this exact same scenario you described in my Huracan. GTRs, Alfas, Vettes, and others all have reports of this same phenomenon. It’s called the Ackermann Angle (or Effect)
I pulled this from a Lambo forum post.
“The noise being heard is the result of the intentional negative camber applied to the front wheels. The purpose is to provide greater grip in high speed cornering. At slow speeds when the front wheels are turned fully, the tires are not making full contact with the road surface resulting in tire noise accompanied with a sputtering sensation.” credit to user Coincident
Here is another great summary on Porsche and Corvettes encountering wheel hop and the Ackermann effect.

I suspect your noise at slow speeds and sharp turns, is the result of your car being AWD and differential causing one tire having to travel further than another in a sharp turn. AWD card make this sound.
