Weird issues with horn on 2011 Panamera 4
#16
Thank you for all the advice you’ve given each time I’ve asked on here!
I wanted to see which pin is + so I turned the IG ON and had my son press the horn while I measured the voltage output from the connector. There is a square side and a rounded side so you can only connect one way. The square side pin is the + side. I got 12 V on both high pitch horn and low pitch horn connectors so the horns must have failed somehow.
The local dealer pricing was $26x.xx. This includes the two new revised horns and two new connectors to splice in. I did not get them because I was concerned that it may not be the horns that failed until I verified so. If I find the printout the parts guy kindly gave I’ll post the part numbers. (I have a problem with misplacing things).
Rat3d M, is it possible you got the + and - side crossed when you connected the new horns?
Definitely test them before replacing the bumper/apron. (Apron is what the technical instructions call it).

The updated part #s as promised:
970-635-021-02 and 970-635-022-02 for the horns
970-612-935-00 for an adapter, need 2.
I found the old part number on eEuroparts.com and am interested in ordering there. I am not fond of splicing because I am not very good at it. It's also the cheapest source compared to FCP Euro and Advance Auto (CarQuest where we live).

The wires are good as far as I can tell. Kind of silly but the replacement horns require 12 V the other way, but the wiring is opposite for the old horns. Just gotta swap + to - and - to +...

When videoing I was trying to avoid showing that the car needs a wash! Well, on the bright side, I’m glad you didn’t say I need to replace those condensers, (the things that look like radiators/with the fins if I named them correctly). They look pretty banged up from road debris, but that’s beyond my capabilities. I have a shop vac I bought in the last few months from Costco. I originally got it to suck out fuel from the engine valley when I pulled the fuel rail, but I found paper towels worked effectively to sop up the fuel. My son (14 yrs old) eventually used it to clean his room. I wonder if he’d let me use it for a dirty job like this....

So, no need to buy those two adapters! (I got them on the way home Thursday morning, before I figured out how to pull the pins). It’s a much cleaner repair/install with no possible source of failure from splicing the wiring in! Wonder what the return policy is as they had them in stock?....
