SNOHOMISH, Wash. - Speedsters on Interstate 5 north of Smokey Point may evade state troopers in cars, but they can't escape the eyes of the Washington State Patrol aircraft.
Ground state troopers have been out in force since the beginning of the year to catch aggressively speeding drivers on I-5 in North Snohomish County. So far, ground troopers, working in tandem with the WSP Aviation Division, have stopped 182 vehicles, 36 of those exceeding 90 mph.
Many speeders have no idea they are being chased by aircraft.
"We know that speed is one of the primary causes of fatal collisions in Washington state," said Captain James Lever. "Last year speed was a factor in approximately 40 percent of the fatal collision statewide."
Drivers have no warning prior to getting stopped and radar/laser detectors are useless in detecting the aircraft. Lever says due to its success, they'll continue using the aircraft to catch aggressive drivers.

I need to get a mobile SAM site strapped to the roof of my car. I was stopped by one of those coming down Snoqualmie pass. I felt proud that they needed a plane to keep up with me. The state patrol is a joke. They do more harm then good.

Watch for cops out there man, it seems that our tax $ is finally put in use, there seems to be a cop around every corner these days. I got stopped yesterday for forgetting to put my latest registeration stick on, no ticket, just a friendly reminder. Still though, they are all over the place.

Wyatt, I had plans for Friday night a few months ago. We have our annual Vendor Show at school, and we get free drinks plus free dental stuff. Plus my class is putting it on, so I have to go. Going to miss out on some good burgers, sorry.

We'll forgive you... in exchange for some more Indian food that I missed last time!
I think it's switched to London Broil, but hmm...
We'll catch up next time I'm in town. Been a while. Hope all is well.
See you there, Kevin!
