instrument cluster removal
Sick of not being able to see my digital speedo, so I am going to take it out and put on new tinting, because I cannot see spending $1,500 for a new cluster to replace the 20 cents worth of tinting.
Having said that, has anybody removed their cluster and have words of wisdom?
I looked at the service manual, but after finding it very lacking in details, I wanted to ask first before attempting this task.

This is very easy to do.
First remove the cluster cover by pulling on it. It's help by spring clips. So don't be afraid to pull it.
Second, remove the vent held in the dash cover, as well as the dash cover on the other side of the instrument cluster. Again, these pieces are held in with spring clips. Just give them a hard pull, and they will release.
Third, remove the instrument clock bezel surround. The screws are all exposed so just remove what you see.
From this point, you will see all screws for the instrument cluster.
This is very easy. One thing, you'll need a stubby phillips head screw driver to complete remove the instrument clock bezel surround.
This is not complicated. So enjoy....

So if you intermittently plugged in two different instrument clusters you could keep going until you rolled the odometer back to approximately zero?

And if anyone wants to come to Tampa area and do this for me, that would be appreciated also. Hmm, I wonder if this is asking to much.

You are in St Pete, I am in Hernando county, about 30 to 40 miles north.
I believe it is more than just replacing the polarizing film. Sun and age caused the film to bond with the plastic lens. That has to be removed.
For the detailed process see.

Good luck, you can contact me if you have any questions.
