Where to buy DE helmet in Atlanta

Is there a good local store for buying helmets that can be used for DE/Autocross? Do motorcycle stores also carry automotive helmets? I thought I read somewhere that they're different b/c of fire proofing materials. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There are many online stores that sell helmets for DE/AX'es. Most tracks and clubs/organizations require the use of SA (Special Application) which is tested to higher impact rating and fireproof lining (you can find more detail on SA rating online). SA ratings are good for 10 yrs. So, since SA2010 is now available, SA2000 are considered obsolete. That means clubs requiring SA helmets are *likely* to require SA2010 and SA2005 - some clubs may still allow SA2000.

If you're concerned about finding the right size, you may want to try on sizes at the motorcycle stores, determine the size, then order an SA-rated helmet of the the same size online. There are some sponsors on this site that sell helmets... you can also try SaferRacer.com. Good luck!

AutoMod in Atlanta

Used to carry it

They were off of the first street south of 285 off of Peachtree Industrial between the Lexus and the closed Mitsubishi dealership. J1 Motorsports in Suwanee may have had a few as well.

All helmets with the SA rating have a very clear label, normally found under the liner of the helmet stating the SA rating then the specification year that it confoms to, IE SA2000, SA2005 and now SA2010.
Here is a link to a page showing the SA label. http://www.apexperformance.net/CartGenie/prod-2112.htm
As Chris stated the SA 2010 is the new rating that went on sale this past October.
SA 2005 helmets will be accepted by all santioning bodies until 2015. Some santioning bodies are allowing the SA2000 to be used until June 2011.
My advice is if you need a helmet and plan on doing track events for any length of time......get a SA2010 helmet.
Prices of the SA2010 helmets start at $169.95 and go to $3500.00 for off the rack helmets. http://www.apexperformance.net/cartgenie/prodList.asp?scat=274

Hey Chris,

The code is "6speed"

There is a box to put in promo codes when you're in the checkout process. I used it the other day and it worked like a charm. Thanks again Clark for the info.

Big thumbs up for Clark and Apex Performance. Clark called me this morning regarding the helmet I ordered on Saturday, letting me know that they run small and he suggests ordering one size larger. Talk about awesome customer service! Thanks again Clark.
