HOUSTON NEXT MEET 8/10/08 - need emails and contact information

PE and SD
We can accommodate both. The best way for this team to be a success: is for us to stay together as a team. If we start splitting up in different groups what is the fun. URBAN SPLIT (BS)
I need routes and ideas (call me 713-213-7241 or email vramani@urbanspeed.com )

Lets see you left early and did not get harassed by the police and get any tickets - sad thing is the ones that received the tickets did not do the racing. Look I am open for all of you to do what makes these enjoyable for ALL of us. I JUST DO NOT WANT IT TO GET SHUT DOWN, ONCE WE GET TO 50-100 cars. This needs to be a long term deal! I want to see all of in your next generation of cars coming to this event.

Couldn't be us, we started from 60 each time
Looks like I will just bring the wife and son in the Cayenne next time.
There is no way I am bringing the new set up on the GT2 and not stretching her legs.
Oh, Joe...you wouldn't believe it, but I think one of my dogs got that awesome bite guard you built for me. Do you still have the mold?
Paulie and I are going to take you out to dinner and your favorite "club" by the way.

Vinod, with all due respect... I have been doing this in Houston for 15 years now and run the biggest and most successful car event the town has to offer (TX2K). We have 250+ cars and over 1,000 people enter the gates at my event, so let me assure you that I understand your concern for wanting the event to be "long-term, police free and safe." Having said that, I can assure you that the Houston group is more interested in runs/motorsports and less interested in "chatting cars" as we can all do that on the forums without having to leave the comfort of our homes. All I was doing was voicing my opinion in an attempt to help you understand what it will take to make the event more successful. At the end of the day, I wish you the best and hope your event turns out to be everything you want it to be...
Peter
p.s. speaking of long term, TX2K9 will be our 10 year anniversary...and it's a 4-day event...

I think the idea Vinod was going for was along the lines of the Cars and Coffee meets that we see all the pictures from every Saturday on the west coast. The idea of more structured cruises is a good idea for the type of guys that want to cruise. If I'm going to run someone as Joe said, I'd much rather do it with 4 or 5 guys at the most. Peter, I'm all about having a good time and I will attend all of your events when possible. I guess the Sunday morning thing just kinda fills a different need for me. I do kinda enjoy checkin' out a few of the cars and shootin' the stuff with the guys though.

I agree, runs should be another time with 4-5 cars with no traffic 6:30 sunday morning. When we have 30+ cars running, someone is gonna get pissed off and call the cops. I got pulled over for expired registration, lol. The state trooper told me he was pissed because he was relaxing in the office and had to get up and actually do work because there were ten 911 calls of people racing and blocking traffic..(slowing down to 30mph) on the freeway...
It's mostly location, location, location and using our heads. I've got some ideas that has already been ran with great success. Granted some folks just want to putt around in their high dollar rides. Thats fine and all but most of us that purchase high end sports cars have done so with one thing in mind. The adrenaline rush of performance when and where the times permits for such antics...
I think we could solve the majority of the problem with unwanted attention by not blocking lanes, going under the speed limit and be more sensitive toward other drivers. I know this would have pissed me off as well...
Most if not all of the guys doing any spirited driving were well ahead of any traffic and not putting anyone in an uncompromising position. There were a couple of times though I saw both lanes blocked with the speed decreasing under the speed limit, seeing a few gestures from other drivers trying to get around.
This should be a golden rule in what NOT to do...if most are in it for the 'cruise' than there shouldn't be a problem with 99% of those people staying in the far right lane. People wanting a little more action can do it in such a manner as to not effect the entire 'cruise'. Picking the right time and place to enjoy our passion with some short bursts shouldn't be a problem...
IMO...those of us that want to enjoy our cars to they're fullest have to be more discrete, pick less traveled roads, know when and when it's not an appropriate time to play so we don't draw unwanted attention.

You nailed it Dennis. I think there is time to run 'em and a cruise of 30+ cars doesn't seem like a sensible time to do so. At least not in close proximity to the pack.

Guys, for those of us doing this for the last 15 years (you included Dennis!!!!), we know how/when to line up and have a spirited run. Common sense should always prevail. The point is that the majority of us do not want cops escorting us anywhere, especially since we have no inspection stickers/no front plate/no cats/illegal exhaust/race gas/nitrous/(insert your not exactly legal part here)......

People like Peter, Dennis, Paulie and I have been doing Mexican run ons for a long, long time. We have thousands under our belt and always err on the side of safety. The big problem in these mass car meets is when guys try and race out of the gate and in traffic, a huge mistake that we have always avoided.
We know what we are doing. However only a very select few understand how the scene functions and we do not expect them to be like us. Paulie and I discussed this matter at lunch today and we decided that Vinod's event will be one where the focus is friendship and fellowship and not driving.
