HOUSTON NEXT MEET 8/10/08 - need emails and contact information

Guys, for those of us doing this for the last 15 years (you included Dennis!!!!), we know how/when to line up and have a spirited run. Common sense should always prevail. The point is that the majority of us do not want cops escorting us anywhere, especially since we have no inspection stickers/no front plate/no cats/illegal exhaust/race gas/nitrous/(insert your not exactly legal part here)......

There's no reason we cannot enjoy Vinod's Urban Living GTG's (which I really enjoyed) then a select few that want to spice it up a little (before or after the venue) can do as they wish at undisclosed locations set up through PM's...

I had alot of fun on the run! I was the other one who got pulled over. No front plate $112 fine and its done. They said they will not drop the ticket when I called. B.S. if you ask me. The problem I think with leaving at 11 is more people on the road to worry about. If we did take off say, around 9 we will not run into as much traffic. No one did anything stupid like some other unnamed cruises I have been on. SD can be done on the cruise as well, witch I think is why we go on them. But only at the right times and I know most know when that is.

Ok so we have SD DONE majority has spoken
People like Peter, Dennis, Paulie and I have been doing Mexican run ons for a long, long time. We have thousands under our belt and always err on the side of safety. The big problem in these mass car meets is when guys try and race out of the gate and in traffic, a huge mistake that we have always avoided.
We know what we are doing. However only a very select few understand how the scene functions and we do not expect them to be like us. Paulie and I discussed this matter at lunch today and we decided that Vinod's event will be one where the focus is friendship and fellowship and not driving.

What I would ask is because 4-5 of you are spirited and passionate about what we are doing is let’s all meet and plan this out. I need help. Please lets all meet this week if possible. Email me vramani@urbanspeed.com Thanks.

Vinod, with all due respect... I have been doing this in Houston for 15 years now and run the biggest and most successful car event the town has to offer (TX2K). We have 250+ cars and over 1,000 people enter the gates at my event, so let me assure you that I understand your concern for wanting the event to be "long-term, police free and safe." Having said that, I can assure you that the Houston group is more interested in runs/motorsports and less interested in "chatting cars" as we can all do that on the forums without having to leave the comfort of our homes. All I was doing was voicing my opinion in an attempt to help you understand what it will take to make the event more successful. At the end of the day, I wish you the best and hope your event turns out to be everything you want it to be...
Peter
p.s. speaking of long term, TX2K9 will be our 10 year anniversary...and it's a 4-day event...

I can't believe I'm going to miss another your September event too... BMWCCA is hosting an autocross at the Police Academy on Aldine Westfield that exact same day, and I'll be over there with the bimmer.
My brother's name is also Vinod, and his name gets slaughtered by everyone just like I imagine yours is....He gets Vinoid, Binol, Vinol, Venoid, Venol, Vinard, Vino, Bernard.....the list goes on. Heck, with my full name (Venkatesh) it's a lot worse, so I just go by Ven. Ven and Vin...pretty simple...thats the plate on our Z - VIN VEN.
Hopefully, I'll be able to make the October cruise. I'm definitely in for the drive and cruising, but probably not for the 1-on-1 SD stuff...maybe some spirited driving up in Sam Houston Forest? DJ knows the routes up there really well, and he's a great lead car through those roads.

Just as a point of reference, check out these vids and some of the other drives documented on this site: http://speedandmotion.com/pages/cgtdrive/index.html
With the right officers and organization, it could be a really cool thing for Houston. By no means would it be time for racing or the TK2Kx 200 MPH blasts, but I'm assuming it wouldn't necessarily be limited to parade speeds either.

Some of you might have missed this, but a couple of months ago this was exactly done here in Houston in a Scion promotional event: Approximately 200 cars were escorted by police in a tour from 45-N along Loop 610, all the way to the 59-S end destination. We were present as a small group of invited Supras. Bottom line: It was fun having the cops work for us for a change ... definitely a VIP kinda experience. The spirited driving was done during the catching up and moving up to the front of the pack. From events like this, Toyota pulls the footage for their current TV ads.
