A new Passport radar, the 9500ix

YES! Sell it on ebay and get an Escort 9500 ix! They have little to no false alarms. I understand the V1 might detect radar a bit sooner but with all of the false alarms, many say it "ruins the pleasure of the ride"!

YOUTUBE! they have plenty of videos of people comparing radar detectors. V1 was always on top but who knows with these new units. Either way, V1 has never let me down, false alarms or not. I turn off everything but KA and laser and its been good for me in my routes.

The V1 is pretty much worthless around town. I realized this after I ran right through a radar trap with the V1 blaring at me. I realized that I had been recieving so many false signals that I had just tuned it out. I get 9 BOGEYS every time I pull into Kroger!!! The thing had become so irritating that I was just ignoring it. With the 9500, if it sounds in an area that I've been in before and I'm speeding, I BRAKE. No questions, no hesitation.
Valentine missed a huge technical advance with the GPS integration, and they know it. They cannot integrate this into the V1 because of IP issues. So, I just ordered a Laser Interceptor, I'll turn my V1 on on the highway, and off in town, and I'll use the 9500 in town. Eventually someone will come up with the total package...
1. I thought there are no fixed radar units in america. All of them are on police cars. How does the GPS track the police cars?
Lets not confuse this with red light cameras, which basically if you don't run red lights you don't get tickets.
So how exactly does the passport use radar. if it is some "well, they take reported locations and make warnings for every radar set up for the last 4 years, how exactly is that a help? You need to know WHERE at active radar unit is WHEN you pass it.
2. False alarms depend on how you set up your alerts- based on my experience. What filtering are you using?
But back to my first question, how does the GPS actually work? (And before you give me a 'here is how GPS works', I know that- but how does knowing where you are in relation to a old reported potential radar in a police car help avoid tickets?

Ard, I'm not sure about the West Coast but here on the East Coast cities and states are putting up speed "cameras" everywhere they can. Washington DC has had them a while now and Maryland just passed laws allowing them to be put in school zones. So to answer your question it won't help with radar in cars but will help locate the speed "cameras".

Has anyone checked out the newest radar passport came out with, the Redline?

I think this just might beat out the v1.
