Shifter leather boot/centre console

Folks I have a 2008 C4S and have been wanting to remove my centre console for painting but I have never figured how the shifter leather boot is removed! The many write up out there seem confusing or meant for the 996. Appreciate some experienced gurus advice or pictures.....

Do I pry the leather boot starting from the back ie. closer to the engine or the front, closer to the dashboard? Understand one of these side has a hook and there are is just a pop-in clip. Prying the wrong side can get expensive with your favorite Porsche stealer

I wrote this attached DIY based on my 987.1. Though the procedure should be applicable for the 997 shifter and console - they share same part nbrs. Have a look and let me know how it works out for you...

Thank you so much for this DIY. I looked all over the forum and this is the best one for ssk installation. I couldn't have done it without it. I just finished installing oem ssk and I am loving it.
