For the $$, it's a decent unit. I'd like to see an upgraded unit with better sound capabilities, and a better input screen for settings. Obviously, this company came out with a great product at a hot price point. I would have payed another $50 or $75 for the next model up with more bells and whistles, if it existed. Reading this GoPro?

I've been looking at various motor-sport camera setups. It seems a great deal of the ones that are marketed in the racer mags are all recording in the ancient 4:3 aspect ratio. I don't mind that the are not "HD" but it just seems silly to record anything in 4:3 since the minimum screen ratio is now 16:9. I think this is even more true after our country has squandered millions if not billions on the transition from analogue to digital tv air waves.

Does anyone else see it this way or is it just me?

These cameras are great, except sound, they must be mounted inside for reasonable sound, the wind kills it for the mic. In dark, the pic gets darker than on a pricier camera. In good light very good. Sometimes the pic skews a little, but again overall they are really fun to have.

Mounted on rear fender while drifting a 996TT:

Awesome camera. I run one on a shifter kart which has no suspension, lots of g-forces and vibrates more than about anything I know. Beautiful picture and very easy to use. So far, bulletproof!

Qualitywise that's completely awesome. I guess an external lens doesn't cost too much either, if one wishes to put a camera on the outside, filming wheels or whatever.

On the Panasonic site, Lumix seems to be a digital camera, not a camcorder - do you have a model number for this Mobonic?

We have a gopro and don't like it. Too hard to use, low sound, eats batteries, frustrating. There appear to be several better options at or near the same price, unless you want to mount outside of the car. We're shopping for a replacement.

I've used the GoPro cameras and they work awesome. From skiing in the snow to surfing/diving, racing cars, and MTBiking. Very versatile little camera and can take some abuse when you crash as well! Sound quality is something that could be improved on the current versions. The WIDE angle version is great for incar video. If you want to mount one low on the front bumper the standard lens looks better for capturing cars that you are chasing/passing with the current unit.

The HD version comes out in less than a month. 1080P quality, the sound has a microprocessor where quality is excellent, you can run up to a 64GB card for many many hrs of recording time. They will be releasing an external LCD screen as well as remote control for the unit as well in the new year. In 720P mode you can get 60 frames/sec!

Check out some of the vids with the new HD version. It looks sick!
