Track Prep Question

Track Prep Question
Getting my new gt3rs ready for track and had some basic questions;
Roll cage. Is bolt in cage enough or should I have a cage welded in? Is the latter heavier?
Ceramic rotors & brake pads. Any ideas on life expectancy? I will only be tracking the car.
Thanks all. Great forum.

you could do a search on both...but briefly...bolt in is sufficient for most de events..some clubs will require a full cage at some point...of course the full cage will be heavier but you have a very good cage man in the bay area, Tony at TC Design in Milpitas...as far as brakes are concerned if you are going to only track you might want to take the ceramics off and either keep them for later resale of the car or sell them to finance your new steel brakes, or you can use them until the rotors need replacement and then go to steel...the steel brakes will have more weight but they will be much cheaper to replace and if you track a lot you will be replacing them even if your driving style is easy on the brakes

talk to Brembo..you should be able to use your stock calipers..you need to replace the rotors and pads..some clubs like BMW will provide you with numbers...most require you to bring your own or put them on your side windows with waterpaint or tape...use google...there are a number of companies that offer cling type or magnetic type numbers...both are a hassle if you track a lot and you might consider some vinyl decals with numbers to protect your paint...(two for one)

Have you done any track events before? It sounds like your spending a lot of money before you've taken your car out. You should just go out and have a basic HPDE with NASA or something and see how far you want to take it before dropping a ton of money into your car. http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/ has an event on the 20th you might want to check out, even if you don't drive it you can see what they do and what goes on.

For reuseable numbers check out Solo Performance.
Search Speed Ventures, NASA, Redline Time Attack, PCA, POC, even BMW and Audi clubs for track days.

Here is a couple tips for you...
For the roll bar, check out our simple bolt in cage that you can use - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...o-p-74008.html
Now the more important stuff... The brakes! The carbon/ceramic brakes definitely are incredible, but once you burn through them if you are a heavy track user, it is a pricey fix at $3500ish per rotor. What most guys will do is take the ceramic rotors off and put them in a box for down the road when they sell the car. We recommend upgrading to the Brembo 2pc floating rotors to work with your stock calipers. These rotors use the patented McLaren hardware to give you a true floating rotor and even pad wear. These rotors last 3 times longer then the 1pc iron rotors. What is nice is because of the hardware, the hat is a non consumable item so you can reuse it. Replacement disks are only $425ish per rotor and hardware is $90 per rotor. For heavy track use, I would recommend the Pagid RS19 yellow in the front and the Pagid RS14 black in the rear. If you have any track or braking questions, let me know!

Why do you recomend the Pagid RS19 Yellow instead of the RS29 Yellow?I use the RS29 Yellow front and RS14 rear on my 09 Carrera S...thanks!
