Pilot Super Sports or RE-11

I've narrowed my tire selection down to these two and wanted to hear opinions from people that have tried both.

I'm in sunny San Diego so no worries about rain/cold/snow. I'm looking for a daily driver that has grip and will withstand the punishment of an auto-x every month, while still maintaining relative comfort on the street.

I was set on the PSS as they seem to be superior than the highly regarded PS2 in every way, including price. My concern is that they might wear prematurely due to the auto-x.

The RE-11 comes highly recommended as an auto-x daily driving tire, but I don't want a tire that is overly noisy/uncomfortable during every day driving. Obviously those are relative terms, but with 19"s on the non-PASM car, a little additional comfort isn't a bad thing when we're still dealing with the high performance both tires bring.

Basically, if the Bridgestones only slightly edge out the Michelins on the track, but the Michelins have a noticeable advantage on the street, I'd get the Michelins (if that makes sense).

I would be sticking with the stock 235/35/19 & 265/35/19 sizes for the RE-11 or move up to 245/35/19 & 275/35/19 as the PSS are not available in our stock rear size.

Any opinions one way or another are appreciated.

I've used the Dunlop Star Specs, RE-11s, and AD08s. The AD08s and Star Specs were right next to each other in feedback. The RE-11s seemed they had a smaller temperature window to the other two. I know you posted that you wanted someone who had run both, but hopefully this helps.

I'd pick the AD08s over the RE-11s if that helps any...

Thanks for the response. I've also heard that the AD08s are serious performers. I think, however, these 3 trade off a bit in their daily driver traits (comfort, noise, tread life) in favor of stickiness on the track. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I order the PSS yesterday.

Looking forward to the next auto-x on the 2nd with new rubber!

Should have gone with the RE-11s...

I'm on my second set and I'd say they are quite far from loud or uncomfortable on the street. I actually threw my set on a friends car that I raced at the Dover National Tour event. 2 others were racing the same car and the car owner just drove it around on the street. They all came back to me saying that the RE-11s were suprisingly quite and smooth, exact words.

As for life, for what they are they lasted a hell of a long time. Granted I only used them for racing since I have dedicated street wheels/tires. But my previous set lasted me 2 years with atleast 70 AutoX events of them. AND they still had 3/32's left(starting wear bars) and weren't completely heat cycled out!!! That's freaking good if you ask me.

They drove great all the way until I replaced them with a other set of RE-11s.

As for AutoX duty, they seem to fair better on heavier cars. They also get a little smushy when they get real hot so they aren't the best for 2 drivers cars on hot days. Other than that, they are an amazing tire, I'm very happy with them.

I used a set of RE-11s, 245/265 19s, on my Cayman S and put nearly 17000 miles on them. That included 6 days of DE. I had no problems with them on the street relating to comfort or noise and they were pretty good on the track. They were't bad in the rain either.

I'm going to try a set or PSSs on my 997.2 this week.

Stay away from the PSS if you want to spend much time on the track. Though they ahave excellent street and rain manners (and they stick like crazy on track), their soft sidewalls makes for them wearing out very quickly if you are the least aggressive with your driving. I killed 2 sets after 3 track days each. Corded the exterior. RE-11s lasted me 6 days and could've done one more day at least on them. Now trying the AD08 and will report back.

if you just do auto x, then the pss is good since you are used to and like the soft wall of the ps2.

for a mix of track duty and street, re11 would surely do better

i personally don't like ps2 and pss. softwall makes no sense on a sports car. i want to feel the road and don't like the extra body roll. pirelli pzero for me on street and RE11 or AD08 for track / street mix.
