Best auto x tires?

Yes, we definitely need more info, since tire selection can determine what class you run. What car is this for? Vehicle weight, power level and wheels driven (FWD, RWD, AWD) can affect what the proper tire would be.
I will echo the above about the Dunlop Star Specs. They're an excellent tire for an ST* class car or rain tire for r-comp classes. For a stock class or *SP class car I've used Kumho V710 DOT R-compounds. They wear well and have fantastic grip when hot. You can use those for track days as well. The best (prevailing opinion and my own) R-comp is the Hoosier A6. Super sticky, but they don't last nearly as long as the V710.
If you're running a higher Prepared or Modified class, tire selection can get trickier. I'm running Hoosier R25 compound slicks on my CMod Formula Ford. It's a great tire, but the compound (softest Hoosier makes) may get too hot and greasy with a heavier car like a CP monster.

You also need to look into the rules of the group you will run with. SCCA allows R compounds with stock class. PCA requires street legal tires for stock class. Big difference if you want to be competitive in class.

Not really though. The SCCA stock class r-comps have to be DOT legal, which is why the A6 and V710 have circumferential grooves. They're street legal, but I'm unfamiliar with the PCA rules and where they draw the line. If they require USDOT approval you're golden, if it's a treadware limit, like nothing below 140, then those two won't make the cut.

I've had great opinions of the Advan AD08. It's held up to over a dozen autocross / dual driver events and 1 track day at MidOhio. They are linear, predictable. I've had previously run the Star Spec and the AD08 is practically the same tire. If you want anything bigger than what Dunlop offers, go with the Yokos!

To stay in the PCA stock class we can not use R compounds. Not even DOT legal R's.
When we AutoX'd our Targa we used Potenza RE-01s. For the RS we looked at Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 but decided to go with Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08. Very happy with the ADVAN's for both wet and dry. Tread life has been much better than expected. Most consider their first runs as throw aways to get heat into the tires. The ADVAN's are sticky even on the first run of the day.

I've used Star Specs and moved on to AD08s, which I prefer. They're fantastic tires with good grip and wear characteristics. Other than the Hankook R-S3 which tests a bit better in the dry (I've yet to try), I've found it to be the best of the non-race tires out there.
