Fire suits are worth every penny! (Scary vid)
Kinda held my breath through the final part of the vid. Scary stuff.

That was terrible medical for a race event, the guy sat in a burning car for who knows how long, they take him out, throw him on the pavement, and go right back to the car (which isnt burning anymore). That's aweful!!!

Old vid, and the driver had serious injuries. I believe he never raced again. He sued the track and organizer (IIRC) and won a small award.
I've personally seen it go bad, and there's no more helpless feeling. At Roebling Road, a good driver hopped into a Formula Toyota (that was a loaner), failed to correctly adjust the harness (instead tying a knot(!)), stuffed the car into the concrete coming on the front straight (fast right hander), breaking C1, C2 an C3 upon impact, which knocked him unconcious, while the fuel cell split and caught fire. Car and driver came to rest 100+ yards from impact, and despite immediate action by the pit crew(s) could not be extricated before the fire engulfed the car. Was severely burned and in a coma for extended period. Never drove again.
Just a reminder. Dangerous sport we practice.
