Radar Detectors - What Is The Best One Out There?
#62
Just to throw in my .02 here, but I've been using a V1 for as long as I can remember and the arrows, along with the distinct noises (braps) that the V1 makes are what make it simple and effective. The range is phenomenal, and if you turn off X band, you cut down on a lot of annoying "false" signals.

LOL, wow...

My 2 cents
I have the new 9500ci. It has the GPS and you can turn the jammers off easily if need be and just run the detectors. It's supposed to be invisible to the police and because it is almost physically invisible it doesn't mess with the looks of the car. You can upgrade the software fairly easily to keep it up-to-date for a number of years (until there is another technological shift). I like the voice and beep notices and it is very good (but not perfect) for false alarms. Stationary alarms you drive by all the time you can tune out or it will do it for you automatically after the 3rd drive by. I don't understand why the "direction arrows" are popular, when I get hit I slow down immediately, period. If I with jammers, I just touch a button when I drop speed and the police can read my speed then. There is no protection, nor should there be, for driving stupid fast as the police can do a visual and get you big time (plus it just isn't safe!). Like others, I get my need for pushing the car hard taken care of on the track. PLUS, it seems to me the police love to give our Porsches lots of extra attention - or is this just me?
The more sensitive you get the more false alerts you get. I find the 9500ci a great product without too much of a compromise. They are very expensive, but I think you get what you pay for here.
K.
P.S. No, I'm not knocking any other products.

Would you trust the Escort Shifter ZR4 (same laser jammer strapped to the Escort 9500ci) to jam laser in your area?...I know I wouldn't. You would be much better off with a Laser Interceptor and a Valentine One. It's sad that Escort is charging $1600 for the Escort 9500ci plus whatever the price of install is for a product with no rear radar antenna, no arrows, and a junky laser jammer attached to it.

RaDaRkInG,
Ouch. I think you misread my post, or at least its intended tone (note my P.S.). It was just my opinion (2cents) from my limited experience, and you may even be right as Valentine is favored by many. Your point about the jammers may also be well taken from others experiences, I don't know as I've only had very good results with them so far. When I say "I don't understand" I just mean, I don't understand. It's not an attack. Chill, no worries.
Glad you like your set up.

V1 is the best. Hands down. Turn X band off on the V1 and there goes 90% of your false alerts. I have three points in my commute where I get K band false alerts and I know where they are. The beauty of the V1 is that if there is a radar trap in the area where the falses take place, it tells you how many radar sources and where they are in relation to your vehicle. V1 has no competition. My only complaint is that I wish they would make it look nicer, but it's function over form and I can live with that.
Now with regards to laser jammers, pretty much everything out there is junk besides the Laser Interceptor. The Escort jammers are garbage. Look at the test. Last years results look about the same. I've personally tested the laser interceptor with two different types of police lasers and it works perfectly, as advertised.
The all-in-one systems are overpriced and underperform. Yes it's nice that they're bundled together, but they don't work all that well.
The winning combo is V1 with LI.

+1 what deputydog is saying. I have been using a V1 since 1995 and I travel well over 50,000 miles a year with my job. I have tried a few other RD's in the past and there is nothing that beats a V1. Seriously do not waste your money on any other brand V1 is the best.
I wish someone made a really good portable laser jammer because I travel and am in rental cars all the time.

I did a roadtrip this past weekend and the CHPs are pretty darn smart. They would trap you around turns so our V1 won't pick them up. I almost had 2 incidents where my V1 would not pick up the CHP before I went around the turn but at that moment, it's too late to slow down. Luckily everyone around me was going 80 also.

Interesting. My V1 usually will warn about such traps before I get to the turn. How old is your unit? You might consider sending it back to the factory for testing. One of my V1's was less responsive than the others and I sent it back, they updated it for free!!. Works great, and that is why I just ordered my 4th one.

It's about a year old.
