v8 touareg?
Well I need a new car for around 20k and I've seen multiple, <40,000 mile fully loaded v8 touaregs for sale. How are they reliability wise? How is the 4x4? This vehicle will be in the mountains of colorado many times a week to go snowboarding, so I need a good 4wd system. What else do I need to know?

The early '04s were pretty bad... I have a late 04 and it still had a LOT of service issues that finally seem to have been fixed. Try to get an 05 or later and ask to see all the records, a lemon will always be a lemon. Also try to get one with a warrantee as they are very expensive to fix.
You CANNOT beat the 4WD on these, it's the best. I also have air suspension which can be a maintenance problem but if you want to go in DEEP snow it's amazing too.
Good luck!

2005+ V8 Touaregs are the year of choice. You need to find one in warranty or at the very minimum, purchase an extended warranty. You will end up using it so it will pay off. The 4XMOTION system is one of the (if not already) most advanced 4X4 system's out there. It is amazing what they can go through considering you are in a luxury SUV.
Air suspension comes in handy but VERY expensive to fix if no warranty is left.
I would trust my wife and son in a Touareg in Colorado type weather any day.

Another vote for an 05 and up...some people say the late 04's are good, but I'd go 05 and up.....I'm shopping for one now actually. They are actually very capable for a luxury SUV. Very safe, easy to drive, can tow, etc. I great all around auto
