The sixth-generation Volkswagen Jetta will be introduced to the world today in a presentation at Times Square in
New York. Although the car was developed to be more cost effective, the new Jetta will not share body parts with
the VW Golf as it had in the past.

Amazingly, the all-new 2011 Jetta will start in the U.S. at $15,995, $1,740 less than the fifth-generation's base
price.

Based on the Volkswagen NCC seen at the NAIAS in January, the new Jetta is much longer than the fifth-gen car.
The latest sedan has a wheelbase that is seven centimeters longer, and a body that is nine centimeters longer,
than the outgoing model. As such, the car measures 4.64-meters long by 1.78-meters wide by 1.45-meters high
(182.7-inches x 70.1 x 57.1), and has a 2650-mm (104.3-inches) long wheelbase. Compared to the NCC, the new
Jetta appears to have a shorter rear end, with a steeper rear windscreen.

The bigger proportions translate to more legroom inside, which has been increased by nearly 7.5 percent. The added
width can certainly be seen at the front of the car, where the added width translates to a sportier appearance.
The redesigned front fascia adds to this, with the short grille element, and narrow headlights.

In the States, customers will be able to choose from four different engines, including a brand new 138-horsepower
(103 kW / 140 PS) 2.0-liter common rail TDI that produces a robust 320 Nm of torque. Also new is the 114-horsepower
(85 kW / 115 PS) entry level petrol engine. The other two petrol engines available in the US are the 2.5-liter unit
producing 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS), and a 2.0-liter TSI that generates 197 horsepower (147 kW / 200 PS). The TSI
will be used in the Jetta GLI, which will not be sold Stateside until 2011. Each of the two turbocharged units are
available with a six-speed DSG transmission, though a manual transmission comes standard.

Six engines will be available on the Euro-spec Jetta, four of which are new to the model. Two of the new engines
are common rail turbodiesels, including the 1.6-liter TDI BlueMotion 103 hp (77 / kW 105 PS) and 138-hp 2.0-liter TDI
(103 kW / 140 PS). Also new are the 103-hp (77 kW / 105 PS) 1.2 TSI and 158-hp (118 kW / 160 PS) 1.4 TSI engines.
All four of these will not be sold until 2011. Until then, the car will only be available with two TSI units: a 1.4-liter
model kicking out 121 horsepower (90 kW / 122 PS), and a 2.0-liter 197-hp (147 kW / 200 PS) model. Both 1.4-liter
models may be mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, while the 1.6- and 2.0-liter TDI, and 2.0-liter TSI can be
hooked up to a six-speed DSG. Presumably, a manual transmission comes standard.

the new front themed VW is a step backward. the diesel engines have so little output i'd never want to drive it.

i rented a Jetta for a road trip. this is my first and last VW experience. the car becomes unstable over 75mph and gives less mileage than my E320. i will take a 300M as my next rental instead.

I don't think it's possible to make a more boring front end for a vehicle. Snooze factor

It's priced similar to a Focus, or Slowbalt so it doesn't have to be exciting, just more exciting than the competition. It's probably not as fun as the Ford but I'm sure its a nicer car inside and definitely more fun and nicer than the chevy

For the price I think this is a great car. Not many cars are nice for $16k.

the interior KILLS any car in its area that its competing with.

the exterior is just as boring as the cars its competing with.

soooo, based on that, they will sell a LOT of these because when people that are looking for a car in this class get in one they will only see how much better the fit and finish is over the chevy, ford and toyota cars in this class.

i hope the GLI is better looking than this, or it is a big let down imo.

The front is nice and I do like it. The rear is so much nicer than the old jetta. Looks like an Audi from rear and side. Overall I Like it and with a lip kit and 18 or 19" wheels it will be awesome.
