2012 VW Jetta GLI APR DXD Stage 2 Clutch Upgrade
When this white 2012 Jetta came to us, the customer had one thing on the checklist: a new clutch and not just any one. A stage 2 DXD clutch in the Endurance configuration. We were happy to provide them with it and hope they enjoy all the added benefits a Stage 2 has to offer.
Parts Installed:
APR DXD Stage 2 Clutch Upgrades for Mk5 and Mk6 2.0T
Powerflex VW MK5 2.0T FSI Lower Engine Dogbone Mount Insert
The Clutch
The coolest part about these particular clutches is the different configurations DXD and APR offer. Although all Stage 2 clutches, you can chose "Daily", "Endurance" and "Drag", depending entirely on driving style and uses. After all, drag racing demands different things out of your clutch than driving down the street does. One clutch doesn't fit all and APR has done the homework for you to recommend a clutch system that meets your specific goals.
Daily is just that; designed for boosting comfort and performance to your daily drives. The Daily configuration is focused around an OEM pedal feel and initial engagement characteristics. This is the clutch that won’t give you a significantly stronger left leg but will provide many thousands of miles of ease of use and operation with the ability to transfer APR’s different Stages of engine performance to the tires. The quick engagement of most aftermarket clutches or the “grab” is greatly reduced and in most cases completely eliminated to allow for smooth clutch release and easy initial acceleration.
The drag configuration is a lot like the style of racing; it's pretty hardcore. In no other form of racing are tenths and hundredths of a second more important nor is a vehicle's drive line more abused in such a short period of time. It is with this understanding that DXD Racing has developed a line of clutches specific to the needs of this ever demanding sport. Pedal travel is reduced allowing for quicker launches off the tree and initial engagement is as rapid as possible getting all of the power to the ground instantaneously. Use of puck style discs and SFI approved Race Covers provide plenty of power handling capability and aids in the perfect pass every time.
Then there is endurance, the choice of this particular customer. The Endurance configuration was developed with APR Motorsport to support their efforts in Grand-Am road racing. It focuses on reduced transmission wear and perfect transitions from gear to gear. Kevlar and other more exotic materials are used to hold the power for many hours of abuse and torsion springs are used to damper between the engine and gearbox. Pedal feel is typically only slightly more rigid and initial engagement is certainly manageable resulting in a driveline component that quite handily eliminates any concerns.
No matter what configuration is chosen, it's a fast way to add instant improvement on your driving experience. For the install, we just drop the transmission and off we go.

They have a great feel. Everyone we have installed has had great feedback. The pedal pressure is slightly increased but still very daily drivable.
