265/35 or 275/30 Tires on 19x11 Wheels

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with putting a 265/35/ZR19 (Michelin or Bridgestone N-spec) tire on a car with 19'' wheels?

The recommended largest rim is 10.5'' but Tirerack's website says even OE's sometimes choose tires for wheels that are a half inch too large or too small without any adverse effects.

Another question... I have a pair of Bridgestone RE01R's in 275/30/19 and the recommended largest width for those tires is 10'', which I find strange. Pirelli makes the same size tire in the Rosso and approves 11'' width. 275mm is almost 11'' so I find it strange... but don't want to stretch an inch away from the recommend rims. What do you guys think?

To explain my situation... I'm actually a Cayman owner, but have fitted some 11'' rear wheels from a 997 wide-body but would like to keep 265mm rear wheels, or use my Bridgestone RE01R's with 245mm fronts, to try and minimize understeer.

I appreciate any input on this.

Thanks,

Suneet

275 is too small on an 11" rim
put it on and you will see how strecthed it is. i tried a 295 on a 12" rim and it was way too stretched. folow the range on the recommendations.

you need a 295 on an 11" rim.
some 275's are bigger thn others and some have bigger sidewalls but i dontt hnkany will work on an 11" rim

porsche ran 18 x 11 OEM on the 996TT - with an 11" rim. and Porsche are generous with rim widths.

Well... Michelin PS2 and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 275/35 are approved by the manufacturer to fit fine on 11'' wheels if you look at the specifications. And 265 is approved up to 10.5... It's just Tire Rack's comment that often you can go .5'' over or under these ranges without adverse effects that makes me wonder if 265/35 can fit too.

suneet,

Can you really get 265's on a 10.5" rim? I have Carerra S wheels on a boxster (9.5) and want to go 10.5 aftermarket. I didn't think the stock 265 could fit (stretch).

Yes, it's approved for all the N-spec tires at least, as long as your sidewall ratio is at least 35.

Unfortunately my deal for the 11'' rear wheels fell through and this topic isn't relevant for me anymore...

I am in the market for Cayman/Boxster fitment Turbo wheels if anyone is selling.

Thanks

Using the wrong rim width can have disastrous results!

Look at the tire manufacturer's recommended widths and stick with those.

I have NEVER said it was OK to put a 265 on an 11" rim. 275 absolute minimum, and only if the manufacturer of the tire says it's OK. 285 is ideal minimum.

I'd like you to show me where our website says it's OK to ignore the manufacturers recommended rim range please. If it does it was a mistake that needs to be fixed.
