Tire mounting lube needs to dry?

How long does it take for the lube used during installation to dry (cure?) on the rim?

Since they're 30's, the installer said to wait 24 hours until I beat on it. He commented that it would take that long for the lube to dry out and then the possibility of the wheel spinning inside the tire would be lessened.

True or false?

use a wax crayon and mark the wheel and tire then drive it most slip a little. So I would wait a short period of time before beating on it.

I waited 23 hours and then made those tires wail!
More wailing tomorrow at the drag strip.

No audience to egg on the installer, he was really serious.

Thanks, good tip on the crayon for tomorrow.

There are some guys who will over use the lube to make it easy to slip the tire on. In that case, your Black series may cause the rears to slip a little and break loose. Most guys I know will put on a minimal amount of lube just to avoid that exact issue with high hp/torque cars. Bugattitech has the right idea. Mark the wheel and tire somehow just to make sure.

your shop can use extra hold hairspray as a lube- like the bikers do- then you won't get any slippage !! I use to need to mount my tires on 930 that way-

It is possible to slip a tire on the rim with too much lube. I have seen people slip wheels as much as 15% by getting on the car too hard right after they are installed. Take it easy on them the day you put them on and they should be fine the next day.
