If you want to save money get the Bridgestone RE050 N-rated.

I know the new Pirelli's are not yet hitting the TireRack Surveys, but the RE050's get so hammered for treadwear that I was thinking the Pirelli's may not cost more money if they stand up longer (and are better performers). I know you can't compare the UTQG ratings between manufacturers, but 140 vs. 220? I'm thinking the Pirelli's should hold up longer.

Dont forget that each company makes their own UTGQ so pirelli 180 might = bridgestone 140 and vice versa

Tire Rack said it was fine to put the RE-11's on a 911.

Speed Rating
W168 mph RE-11
Y186 mph Porsche OEM tires

Load Index
98 1653 lbs (RE-11)
100 1764 lbs (Porsche OEM tires)

I'll be at a DE this weekend and will report back on the suitability of the RE-11 for street/track applications. I'm already impressed with the grip of this tire. I'll be careful not to exceed 168 mph...

As your post just reinforces what I said...the RE11's don't have the same speed or load rating. I would pass...

What about the ContiSportContact 3s?

They get good reviews on TireRack, are not (yet?) Porsche Spec'd (at least in 305/19s), but have the same rear load rating (isn't that the most important issue given our heavy butts?).

Conti3s

235/35/19 - 1356 lbs.
305/30/19s - 1874 lbs.

PS2s N1

235/35/19 - 1201 lbs.
305/30/19s - 1874 lbs.

Just wondering why no lovin' for the Conti3s here?

Good question...I think though it's because the Contisport 2's were such a mediocre tire that no one wants to give the Conti3's a shot. They do have them in a N rating up to a 295/30/19.

TireRack gave them a great rating in a test in which it actually beat the PS2 in the dry around a track.

Unhappy RE-11 DE Feedback

Had a DE this past weekend on the RE-11's. The weekend had rain on and off, so some runs were in the wet, and some were in the dry, although the track never completely dried out.

I will say the RE-11's were quieter on the highway than either of my previous two tires (ContiSport 2's and Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's). Ride quality was what one would expect from a low profile 19" tire.

Track Impressions:
1. The RE-11's were sure footed in the wet with good grip. Of course, the tires are new, so they should grip well.
2. As the track dried out, I was impressed with the tire on several fronts. First, the dry grip really was outstanding. When the tires began to loose grip, it did so gradually, so I felt very much in control. Second, under steer issues previously experienced with the Pirelli's were minimized. Turn in was crisper at higher entry speeds. I did upsize the fronts from 235's to 245's.
3. I experienced major gains in tire pressures (+7 lbs) as the tires heated up. The car began to feel 'floatly'. I dropped the pressures, and the car felt planted once again. Cold pressures of 33 front and 39 rear were my targets.

Overall, I think these tires are an excellent alternative to the PS2, at a lower price, even though they aren't N spec, and have a 98 load rating with a W speed rating.

I've used the RE50's on my Boxster and have gotten fantastic treadwear. I drive them hard and after 15k miles I still have life left

Here's a video of the RE-11's singing on a slightly damp track:

I just got these on my GTI and I like them. I went from the Dunlop All Season tires that came stock on the car, so of course they are better. Much more traction now, although sadly still not enough, lol. Ride is better, it handles puddles just fine, and its quiet. I can't say how well it'll stand up to track use, but on the street I like it a lot. My former favorite was the Falken Azenis RT615, but this tire seems to offer all the performance without any of the harshness... and its cheaper.

The Hankook Ventus V12 have gotten great reviews and I am seriously thinking about putting them on my new wheels for the 997S. Even if they are 85% as good as the PS2's at less than $800 for an entire set with great reviews, it is damn well worth it to me.
