The Bentley Bentayga is hardly the vehicle you would guess to hold a record at a prestigious international hill climb, but why not? SUVs have been blurring the line of what a performance heavyweight is all about and this one is no exception. Let’s look into some performance numbers.
What the 12?
One does not simply waft up a hill at speed with an engine of simple design. Powered by a 6 liter, twin turbo W12 engine the 4 door glided up the hill with 600 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive system that caressed every horse to the ground. The result? A time of 10:49.902 which puts it on par with a 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec driven by Nick Robinson in the front wheel drive open class. This is an incredible feat for a vehicle of this size.

Onboard Video Analysis
Onboard confirms how planted this car was on the journey up the hill. Tighter corners required the driver to turn the wheel less than you might expect with a minimum amount of tire noise in even the hardest cornering conditions. Easy to see why certain versions of this car are selling in large quantities: people love a proper setup and Bentley is delivering it.

Proper R&D
Bentley is incredibly smart to test a car like this up Pikes Peak. By running the car up the hill they are able to better improve the driving experience and all the parts that hold it together. Every corner this car took in anger up the hill will better the breed and make road cars handle better which ultimately makes them safer. Besides, it’s just plain cool to hear a W12 twin turbo giving it full throttle into the fog. Hope you enjoyed reading.
