Rare Lamborghini Veneno Roadster Sets Auction Record

A rare Lamborghini Veneno Roadster recently sold for $6 million, marking the most valuable car ever sold through an online auction platform, according to SBX Cars. This unique car, finished in satin black with green highlights, was sold after multiple unsuccessful attempts to find a buyer. Initially listed for $9.5 million by VIP Motors in Dubai, the Veneno Roadster had been on the showroom floor for at least two years before finally finding a new owner.

Challenges in Selling the Veneno

Despite its rarity, the Veneno Roadster faced significant challenges in finding a buyer. Initially listed for sale with a high asking price, the car failed to sell both in a dealership and at auction. In February 2020, RM Sotheby’s anticipated the car to fetch between €4.5 million and €5.5 million, but it remained unsold. The SBX Cars auction, which concluded on May 10, also ended without an immediate sale. However, negotiations with the highest bidder eventually led to the car being sold for $6 million.

A Milestone for Online Car Auctions

This sale represents a significant milestone for online car auctions, surpassing the previous record held by a 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, which sold for $5.36 million. The Veneno Roadster, the second of its kind to leave the Lamborghini factory, had only 1,105 miles on its odometer. Its specifications include a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 engine, producing 740 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to accelerate to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 miles per hour.

Unique Features of the Veneno Roadster

The Veneno Roadster’s distinctive design contributes to its high value. It features a matte black exterior with exposed carbon fiber and lime-green pinstripes, enhancing its aggressive look. The lime green accents extend into the interior, with leather adorning the seats, steering wheel, dash, and center console. Although its appearance is reminiscent of a racing prototype, the car is road-legal, blending extreme design with functionality.

More Exclusive Lamborghinis on the Horizon

For collectors who missed out on this Veneno Roadster, SBX Cars has hinted at another opportunity. An even more exclusive Lamborghini Veneno Coupe, one of just three ever made, is set to go up for sale soon. With less than 130 miles driven since new, this coupe is expected to attract significant interest and potentially sell for an even higher price, given its rarity compared to the Roadster.
