Porsche 919 EVO Smashes Nurburgring Record

Your eyes are not deceiving you; this car actually threw down a lap time almost 1 minute faster than Stefan Bellof in the insanely fast 956. Even today, the time Bellof set is staggering (6:11.130 for comparison purposes) and stands as a testament to how proficient Porsche is at raising the bar for everyone else. The onboard lap—which will be provided at the end—is one of the most incredible things you will ever see.
Corner Comparison
Let’s keep comparisons in the family and look at how fast this car is compared to something like a GT2 RS. Schwendenkreuz is a left-hander that is approached early in the lap at full throttle with an apex speed of about 127mph in the flagship version of the 911. Ridiculous Acceleration
The V4 packs vicious acceleration that makes the fastest road legal hypercars look like pedal bikes. Just after Aremburg corner, the experimental race car runs from 82mph to 186mph in just 5.97 seconds. Top speed on the longest straight was gear limited to approximately 220mph. Porsche shows enthusiasts the importance of tailoring your gearbox if you want to compete on the highest levels.

Many people would say aerodynamics are what make this car capable of doing what it does, but it’s not that simple.
