Sold Out Sián by Lamborghini is the Brand's First Hybrid
Lamborghini's sinister Sián embraces hybrid technology not for silly things like fuel economy, but for maximum performance instead.
Making up for Lost Time
Hybrid used to be a word associated with boring, fuel-sipping, egg-shaped cars. But in recent years, supercar makers have embraced this technology and used it to manufacture some of the fastest cars ever built. Except Lamborghini that is, a brand that's remained steadfast to their mission of building exotic cars with naturally-aspirated V10/V12 powerplants. But now, even the raging bull is rolling out their very first hybrid, and it more than makes up for that long wait.

Staying With Tradition
The Sián is immediately recognizable as a Lamborghini, which is obviously important. But what really matters is that it's also the most powerful street-legal car the brand has ever produced. And that starts with, thankfully, a naturally-aspirated V12 engine, not some lesser powerplant.

Working Together
By itself, the mid-mounted V12 produces a staggering 785 horsepower. But Lamborghini has also added an electric motor in between the engine and transmission that receives power from a supercapacitor. The 48-volt mild hybrid system adds another 34 horsepower to the mix for a grand total of 819 raging ponies.

Extra Benefits
All that extra equipment adds a nominal 75 pounds to the Sián's weight. It also aids fuel economy, if you care about that sort of thing. And the mild-hybrid system powers the car during low-speed driving, as well as provides a boost under hard acceleration.

Impressive Performance
As you might imagine, the performance is impressive. Lamborghini says the Sián will do 0-62 miles-per-hour in just 2.8-seconds. It will also top out at somewhere over 220 miles-per-hour. And we're betting those are conservative numbers.

Blend of Styles
In terms of styling, there's no mistaking the Sián for anything else. It blends current Lamborghini styling cues with futuristic elements from various concept cars but somehow manages to also incorporate some retro bits as well.

Perfect Mix
For example, the Terzo Millennio gives the car its wide, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights. Those six hexagonal rear lights were lifted from the Countach. But you'll also find the familiar Gandini line that's present on every single modern Lamborghini. And yet, the whole thing manages to look like something from the future.

From the Future
The interior is equally futuristic, with a completely configurable digital instrument cluster staring you in the face. There's also a touchscreen in the center console sporting Lamborghini's most recent infotainment system. An abundance of surfaces is covered in Poltrona Frau leather for added comfort.

For the Few
Lamborghini is only building a mere 63 examples of the Sián, a number they chose because the company was founded in 1963. Unfortunately, every single one of them is already spoken for. Those lucky 63 people will get to completely customize their Siáns through the brand's Ad Personam program.

Don't Change
Clearly, the Sián is meant to be an ultra-limited flagship for Lamborghini that previews what the brand is working on for the future. It "represents the first step in Lamborghini's route to electrification, and expedites our next-generation V12 engine," according to the brand's boss, Stefano Domenicali. So in case you were worried about Lambo's future in an electrified world, rest assured that they aren't going to change who they are at their core.
